DeAndre Yedlin has been nominated for the 2015 U.S. Soccer Men's Player of the Year award.

Yedlin, currently on loan at Sunderland from Tottenham Hotspur, has been in regular in the USA's national team this year, having established himself in the XI since breaking through onto the international scene at the 2014 FIFA World Cup.

His exploits in Brazil last summer earned him the award for Young Male Athlete of the Year, and so he will hope to follow that up with another trophy this year.

Yedlin up for award after super year

Yedlin has been a mainstay in Jurgen Klinsmann's side this year, playing in 19 of their 20 fixtures and supplying five assists in those appearances. He has also shown his versatility during this time by playing in both right-back and right-wing positions, both effectively too.

The 22-year-old might have been the subject of a 19th minute substitution in the Black Cats' latest defeat, taken off early on in a 1-0 loss at home to Watford, but he has recently began to make an impact in the Premier League, starting in eight of Sunderland's last nine games after a slow start in England with Spurs.

Whether or not he has a future at White Hart Lane remains to be seen, but he can certainly have a future in the division going by what has been seen from the promising wideman so far this season.

Yedlin is up against some tough contenders for the award, with four others players nominated.

Another England-based nominee is Aston Villa goalkeeper Brad Guzan, who has had more success at international level this year than at domestic level, winning the Golden Glove trophy at the Gold Cup for the USA but currently sitting at the bottom of the Premier League with Villa.

Former Spurs and Fulham midfielder Clint Dempsey is also nominated, a three-time winner of the award, whilst Michael Bradley is also in the running, the 2007 Young Male Athlete of the Year having reached 100 caps in 2015.

Fabian Johnson completes the list, the Borussia Mönchengladbach wideman having had a very prolific year despite spending the majority of his time at right-back.
