Former Manchester United goalkeeper Mark Bosnich believes that the Old Trafford outfit should sack manager Louis van Gaal as soon as possible in order to save their faltering Premier League campaign.

The Red Devils lost their fourth consecutive match on the bounce against Stoke City on Boxing Day and the players looked like they were not interested in being on the pitch. The performance was spineless, and what was more shocking was the lack of a fighting spirit you’d expect from a United side.

And 43-year-old Bosnich believes that it is in the best interests of the club to sack their Dutch manager and bring in Jose Mourinho, who he believes is the best candidate to replace the former Barcelona coach.

Bosnich advises United to bring in Mourinho

“If one keeps losing continuously, it sometimes leaves the board with no choice,” the Australian told talkSPORT.

“I watched his body language very closely on Saturday," said Bosnich, continuing to add, "he just looked like a defeated man. The fact that he actually said he might come out and resign told its own story in itself.

“Last week against Norwich was a disaster, it was a little bit better on Saturday, but they’re just not good enough. In football, it generally comes down to the manager and it’s much easier to get rid of the manager than 11 players," he said.

Bosnich says Mourinho should have come in at end of Ferguson reign

“Originally when Sir Alex Ferguson retired I thought he [Jose Mourinho] would have been the best [managerial] choice to go for then,” he continued.

“I know a lot of people have their doubts, but the bottom line is he is one of the best managers in the world.

“Everywhere he has gone during his career he has won trophies and if you speak to the majority of Manchester United fans, they just want to get back to the glory days where they are in the hunt for the major trophies.”

Things have come to such a stage that every United supporter, be it someone who is anti or pro van Gaal wants the Dutchman to be sacked. His admirers just want to see him leave the club with dignity rather than being slated by the fans, week in week out. And as far as his critics are concerned, we’re all well aware of what they think.
