The Kentucky Wildcats did their part on defense in this game as they scored 24 of their 26 points in the first half. Many of Kentucky's game-deciding plays happened on the defensive end including multiple stops.

One important stop is potentially the call that decided which team would win the ball game. Perry Orth, who was on the field due to an injury to starting quarterback Connor Mitch, threw a pressured pass to the edge which was picked off by true freshmen Chris Westry.

The call was what happened after. Westry was then tackled and hit to the ground hard and lost control of the ball. Some believe he lost control prior to being down, but the video provided no evidence to overturn the call. Kentucky had the ball with 4:32 left and executed well enough on offense to run out the clock and win the game.

After such a furious rally, Gamecock players and fans have to be upset with the outcome and will talk about that interception call for the rest of the week.

For Kentucky, another first half of dominant football felt good for the optimistic fans. Another second half of a complete breakdown is giving fans a bad taste in their mouths. Kentucky has yet to play a full game of football, but when they do that they can be a great team.

A program achievement for Kentucky is that this was the first SEC road win since 2009. Some Wildcats played their whole career without winning a game on the road in the SEC. To finally give this program a win on the road in this league is an immediate improvement.

The story for Kentucky is defense and their rushing plays. Despite Kentucky's second half breakdown on offense, the defense held together and made sure the Gamecocks did not score often.

South Carolina had three field goals that Kentucky forced them into after stopping them in the redzone. South Carolina also missed a field goal the Wildcats forced them into, as well as a fumble on a two-point conversion late in the game that led to a two-point swing going the other way; a huge momentum swing in favor of the Wildcats.

Last year's big story against South Carolina was the running game of Jojo Kemp. This game, while Kemp still had some moments, Stanley "Boom" Williams made his mark by making big plays to clinch the Kentucky win.

A win that gives Kentucky a record of 2-0 and will send them into Week 3 against an SEC rival in the Florida Gators. A team they look to end a 28-year losing streak against in a renovated Commonwealth Stadium.
