According to the Daily Mail, Sunderland are leading the race for Manchester City midfielder Jack Rodwell.
Gus Poyet is hopeful that Frank Lampard's move to the Premier League champions will open the exit doors for the 23-year-old who featured just 10 times for City last season. Lampard joined the blues on a six-month loan deal from Manchester City's American franchise New York City yesterday.
West Bromwich Albion and Southampton are also interested in the player.
