Who Will Be Roman Reigns And Dean Ambrose's Mystery Partner?

With Night of Champions fast approaching, one of the biggest talking points on the lead up to the event, is who will be teaming with Ambrose and Reigns to take on the Wyatt Family.

After months of build, dating back to the Money in the Bank special, the Roman Reigns (now with Dean Ambrose) and Bray Wyatt (now with Luke Harper and Braun Strowman) feud looks like it may finally be coming to it's final showdown.

With Bray Wyatt introducing a new third member, 'The Black Sheep' in the form of the monstrous Strowman, to gain the upper hand on the former Shield members, Reigns and Ambrose announced on RAW they have a tag team partner.

The six man tag team match has been confirmed by WWE, but the mystery third member has remained exactly that. Mystery is the key word, as rumours may have circulated regarding several superstar's being the mystery man, there has been nothing confirmed.

The WWE has a huge opportunity to genuinely surprise people at Night of Champions, and this is one of the biggest pulling factors leading into the event, so let's take a look at five superstars who could potentially be the mystery partner...

1. Erick Rowan

Yes, the former Wyatt Family member himself, 'The White Sheep' to Strowman's 'Black Sheep'. Rowman, as storyline's go would make the most sense out of everybody on this list, his previous relationship with both Wyatt and Harper makes perfect sense for him to show up this Sunday.

Since Wyatt let both Harper and Rowan go, there has not been an interaction between the Eater of Worlds and Rowan, claiming to be jealous that of Strowman could be an angle WWE would want to go with.

There would be no doubts that a man the size of Rowan could counter his former family members along with new member Strowman, and he has had a run as a face previously, teaming with John Cena back at Survivor Series.

However, there are some potential barriers for Rowan to be the mystery partner, the main one being he is currently injured. It was only late June that it was revealed Rowan had tore his bicep and was set to miss around six months of action.

We are only halfway through his scheduled recovery, and whilst superstar's have returned from serious injuries at a rapid rate, there has been no sign that this is the case for Rowan, which makes him a serious doubt to appear at Night of Champions.

Also, his most recent run with the company saw him back teaming with Luke Harper, seemingly set to chase Tag Team gold, something that had evaded them during their original Wyatt Family days.

Another potential problem might be that, given how the company has built this 'surprise' and decided to reveal it on the night, fans hopes have escalated. With fan interest high, in regards to who this mystery superstar is, a question mark must be raised as to whether Rowan is a big enough name to fulfil the WWE Universe's high hopes.

So even though it would make sense for Rowan to go against his former brothers, it seems like his injury is going to prevent that being the case, unless he knows something the world does not.

2. Kane

That's right, the 'Big Red Machine', 'Corporate Kane' or 'Concessions Kane', whatever name it is you know him by, he is returning to television soon, and Night of Champions could provide the perfect opportunity for that.

Kane has been written off television since Summer to film WWE Films latest project, '6:42' alongside Dolph Ziggler, and with the show off now having returned (he will also compete at Night of Champions against Rusev) it is only a matter of time before Kane does too.

So why would he team with Reigns and Ambrose? Well the Miz TV segment on Raw this past week saw the term 'Monster' be thrown around quite a lot, referring to the sheer size and strength of Harper and Strowman.

This would mean that the baby faces would need a monster of their own to counter the predicament, as they have been unable to thus far, enter Kane. Perhaps he could return with the mask, and rid himself of the corporate look for one last run as the character that made him a legend.

A masked Kane and Strowman face off would be a true monsterous battle, and Kane could easily pass as the equalizer to the 'Black Sheep', and given Kanes history with Wyatt himself, it would make sense as they do not see eye to eye.

However, the last time we saw Kane he was a member of the Authority, are we supposed to believe that they just let Kane go, and no longer require his services, especially on a night when Seth Rollins has not one but two Championship matches.

Well, the obvious way around that situation is that Kane and Rollins do not exactly see eye to eye, and potential future feud could easily be set up with a face turn for the Big Red Machine.

But, similarly to Rowan, is Kane a big enough name to fulfil the dreams of the WWE Universe, when he is clearly coming into his final run with the company, no longer the draw he once was, it's tough to see him coming from behind the curtain on Sunday.

Whilst we know that creative do seem to enjoy turning Kane from heel to baby face and back again, whether this is the right moment remains to be seen.

3. Samoa Joe

Perhaps one of the most interesting picks on this list, as he doesn't really have a tie in with any of the superstars involved in the match, but I have mentioned him nonetheless.

Joe is one of wrestling's all time greats, and the day he finally made his WWE debut was one fans had been awaiting for years. But that debut came on NXT, a place for wrestlers to develop, and prepare for an eventual main roster call up, if they prove themselves.

Well the submission specialist has certainly proved himself before even stepping foot in an NXT ring, and had nothing to improve upon, Joe is the real deal already. Whether it be TNA or ROH, he has vast experience being a companies top guy, which is why many were surprised to see him on NXT.

Ever since he debuted on the minor leagues of the WWE, a hot topic amongst wrestling fans has been if or when Joe would be brought to the main roster, to battle with the likes of Reigns and Wyatt.

Well, Night of Champions could just be that moment. Since debuting on NXT, Joe has been portrayed as a monster, due to his sheer strength and power, and a monster (as I have already mentioned) is exactly what the former Shield members are in need off come Sunday.

Could this not be a monumental moment, to see the legendary Samoa Joe finally debut on the main roster of the WWE, a moment fans have waited years for. He could then finally stake his claim to be on the main roster full time, and have that one run that a talent of his calibre deserves.

Joe may not have any direct links to be involved in this match, making him appear the unlikely choice, not ever placing him on the main roster would be a waste, and with the amount of talent he could work with, the sooner the better the push happens in my eyes.

4. Randy Orton

In terms of current storyline, the Viper, Randy Orton would make the most sense to turn up and be the tag team partner.

Orton of course, was taken out by the Wyatt family during Monday Night Raw last week, and for this reason he could be the most likely to be the partner, but also the most unlikely at the same time.

There should be no surprise if it's the Apex Predator who appears on Sunday, looking for revenge on the Wyatt Family for the beat down that he suffered, it would make sense.

After all, from everything we have learned about Orton during his career, he does not normally let things like that slide, and with Orton being one of the companies top guys and now a veteran of sorts, he can be taken seriously as a threat to the Wyatts, which is what is needed.

Another reason Orton would be a strong addition, is that out of all the candidates, he would be the strongest to take on a feud with Bray going forward from Night of Champions, someone who could elevate Wyatt to the level he has been wanting to get to since debuting himself.

With the Reigns/Ambrose relationship seemingly going to eventual blow up in their faces, leading to a feud between the pair, this could be a good opportunity for that to happen, therefore the partner could continue working with the Wyatt family.

A feud between the new face of fear and Orton has been teased for a long time, and he is one of the only top guys that Wyatt is yet to work a programme with, making a strong claim for Orton to turn up on Sunday.

On the other hand, if reports are to be taken seriously (of course, they never are) then Orton has requested some time away from the company to spend with his family, whilst the WWE thinks of a major angle to use him in for his return, hence the beat down.

Jimmy Uso also took a beat down at the hands of the Wyatts for backstage discussions with his cousin and buddy Ambrose, and he has not returned since, with Reigns claiming to get revenge on his behalf, which ruled him out.

So if Uso is not going to return from the attack, then why would Orton?

The problem was, the beat down's were not severe enough for people to believe that either man was in serious danger or that they could have suffered injuries seeing them out of action for a prolonged period.

Unlike Uso, Orton's name has not been mentioned, which is why I have not ruled him out, so there could be a strong potential for an RKO out of nowhere come Sunday.

5. The Rock

The longshot of the predictions, the People's Champion himself, The Rock.

The Rock has been rumoured to return to the WWE since SummerSlam, and his name has once again been thrown around for an appearance come Night of Champions.

It makes sense, both Jimmy Uso and Roman Reigns are his family, fighting the Wyatts would allow him to get revenge for Uso, whilst coming to the aid and helping Reigns at the same time.

The Rock of course, has a history of coming to help Reigns, he surprised the WWE Universe at the Royal Rumble by helping Reigns win the match, to main event Wrestlemania 31, so his reasoning would make sense.

However, with The Rock set to begin filming on the next season of his hit T.V. show Ballers, it is unlikely he would want to risk an injury in an angle that will not even be the main event.

The Rock likes to be involved in significant moments when he comes back, moments that will be remembered and it could be argued that this may not be one of those, which would potentially put a block on this idea.

Bray Wyatt has been given major superstars to compete with at WrestleMania though, having faced both John Cena and The Undertaker, so there is no reason why this could not set up a match for the grandest stage of them all, between two of the best talkers in the business.

After all, The Great One loves to surprise his fans, and a return at Night of Champions would do exactly that.

Overall it's all just speculation at this point, with no one seeming any wiser on the situation, which means that creative has done it's job, people are intrigued as to who the mystery partner will eventually be.

After all, it might not even matter as the inevitable break up of the 'best friends' Reigns and Ambrose could take place at Night of Champions, therefore stealing the headlines away from whoever the superstar turns out to be.

But one thing is for sure, I am interested in who it is, and how it all plays out and to see if it was really worth all this hype, and I guess there is a certain, rather popular injured WWE superstar I haven't mentioned yet, isn't there? Yes, Yes Yes...

Or it could turn out that Roman Reigns was not lying when he 'revealed' the partner in his WWE.com interview with JoJo, and the mystery partner will in fact be the return of The Great Khali. (That's a joke...I hope)
