It has been contrasting seasons for West Ham and Swansea. West Ham having had their best season in the Premier League and Swansea have underperformed massively, at one point earlier on in the season looking like relegation contenders.
A win for West Ham would have seen them potentially being able to climb into fourth position on Tuesday in their final game at Upton Park, if results went their way this weekend.
The Hammers have put on a real challenge for a Champions League place in recent weeks, but today all those hopes were squashed as they lost 4-1 at home to Swansea in their penultimate game at the Boleyn Ground.
West Ham dominated the early exchanges but goals from Wayne Routledge and Andre Ayew midway through the first half really dampened the spirits of the players.
It didn't get any better in the second half as Ki Sung-Yeung fired past Randolph early on to make it 3-0. The home side grabbed a consolation goal back with around twenty minutes to go through a Stephen Kingsley own-goal but Swansea really added insult to injury as they took advantage of a West Ham attack and hit them on the counter, Bafetimbi Gomis the scorer.
The Result means West Ham will most likely be looking over their shoulder in the final games instead of in front of them. Swansea move three places up to 11th after their first win in East London for 60 years.
'Keeper and Defence
Darren Randolph - Wasn't helped by the defensive vulnerabilities in front of him, but could have maybe commanded his area better when there were low crosses into the six yard box. Not one of the worst but has certainly given better displays this season. 5
Michail Antonio - Played out of his natural position again at right back, was strong in the one on ones and going forward, but was part of a poor defensive unit and his positioning could have been a lot better in the goals conceded. 5
Winston Reid - very lethargic when reacting to a loose ball and didn't clear his lines quick enough. Communication with Ogbonna was missing when it was needed. 4
Angelo Ogbonna - sloppy when in possession and was slow tracking back from the through balls. Defensive partnership wasn't there today and it contributed to the conceding of four goals. 4
Aaron Cresswell - flashes of encouraging play but didn't get forward enough when in attack. With Andy Carroll in the box, he thrives on the crosses and Cresswell is usually vital for that. Defensively he didn't do anything more wrong than the others. 5
Midfield and Attack
Mark Noble - didn't offer enough to the back four which contributed to them giving the ball away too much when distributing it. Wasn't too bad in possession but didn't offer enough to make a difference. 5
Cheikhou Kouyate - usually so consistent but showed nothing of what he is capable of today. Gave the ball away too cheaply and didn't offer too much when he was brought into the back four to allow Antonio to go forward. 4
Manuel Lanzini - tried to go forward when the opportunity was there and created a few goal scoring opportunities. But as was the same for most of the team, not penetrating enough and wasn't eager enough to get on the ball. 5
Victor Moses - very quiet. When he did get the ball he was wasteful and had the look of someone who knows he won't be there next season. Not enough energy and showed no eagerness to create any notable chances. 3
Dimitri Payet - nothing like what everyone has come to expect of him today. Too many passes going astray and didn't show that much willingness to attack. Set pieces were very hit and miss. 5
Andy Carroll - couldn't get in the game. Looked so isolated up front and when the ball was played to him, there was no one that he could really hold the ball up for and feed in. Certainly not a performance that he will remember fondly. 4
Substitutes
Enner Valencia - was brought on with time running out and didn't show anything which was going to potentially change the game. Having had fresh legs you would have maybe expected him to be full of energy but you wouldn't have known that he had only just come on if you had only just started watching. Certainly someone who the club may look to offload in the summer. 4
Diafra Sakho - came on as an impact sub and showed signs of changing the game. It certainly gave the midfield more options to feed and Carroll definitely looked like he had an extra output. Done the best he could in the circumstances. 5
Emmanuel Emenike - came on and made some penetrative runs at the opposition but there was no end product. It was a hard game to come into and make an impact so you can't look into his performance too much. 5
