West Ham United have secured their first win of pre-season, with a 3-0 victory over German side Karlsruher SC.

Back on track?

The Hammers were desperate to get their pre-season on track, with Slaven Bilic's side failing to win any of their four matches.

However it does seem the London side are seemingly coming into form at the right time, ahead of their crucial Europa League clash next Thursday with NK Domazle.

It was a perfect start from Bilic's side, taking a two-goal lead inside the first 17 minutes. Andy Carroll made his impact on his first appearance of the tour as he was on hand to head home strike partner Enner Valencia's cross to the back post.

The Hammers had a scare when Tim Fahrenholz's free-kick flew past the post in the 15th minute, but managed to go two ahead moments later.

Sofiane Feghouli had proven an inspired signing, with excellent performances since his free transfer from Valencia. He showed it again as he caught the 'keeper out by drilling a low shot in from 22 yards out.

Ashley Fletcher continued his good start in a Hammers shirt, firing home the third goal with 10 minutes to play. The striker had only been on the field five minutes, but was alive enough to turn in Aaron Cresswell's cross.

The only negative from the game was Cresswell's forced exit, after a tough tackle, which could see Bilic sweating over his fitness.

Always a good test

It is another pre-season match under the belts of Bilic's men, and the Croatian has said that the match was a good test for his side.

He told whufc.com: "It was a good test for us, in a good atmosphere against a good team who play in the 2. Bundesliga."

He continued: “It was a good game, and we expected that to be fair" and they "expected to have hard legs in the games we have played so far, and we expected to be a little fresher for this one". He believes they did play "some quality football" and "as a team, we were compact, we saw some great things and it was a good result".

Bilic concluded: “The only downside of this game is that we have to see what is [wrong] with Cresswell", as he "got injured and it didn't look that good" and the club "will have to assess it.”

West Ham United will take on NK Domzale in the third qualifying round of the Europa League on Thursday, July 28 with kick-off at 4pm BST.
