Watford will begin their week-long trip to Austria with a friendly against 2. Bundesliga side Union Berlin in their third pre-season match.
Walter Mazzarri is taking his side on a short tour and the match with the German outfit will be played at the Santa Andre Stadium in the small town of Santa Andre.
So far, the Hornets are unbeaten in their two pre-season matches, as they started with a 1-1 draw with non-league side Woking, but managed to claim their first victory under the new manager against League Two Stevenage.
Hornets could field strong side
Unlike the previous two matches against lower opposition, the Hornets have taken a strong squad over to Austria for the week-long tour.
Captain Troy Deeney started the match with Stevenage last week, and so did Odion Ighalo, but there was still quite a lot of fringe players present in the starting line-up and on the bench.
However, the two games on the tour will provide Mazzarri with the perfect opportunity to rotate his squad and allow players more games time, while also experimenting with tactics and formations ahead of the new season.
Although, the 3-5-2 formation looks to be the one the Italian will be using, but the match with Union Berlin could be Juan Camilo Zuniga’s first chance to impress following his loan move from Napoli.
Union without last season's top-goalscorer
One possible positive for Watford going into the match with the German side is that Union have recently lost their top-goalscorer to Hamburger SV.
American international Boody Wood’s departure has brought about a big chance for new striker Philipp Hosiner, who recently had an unsuccessful loan spell with FC Koln.
The former Rennes man scored in his previous outing for Union Berlin and the side as a whole promise to bring a big enough threat for Mazzarri’s side.
Former Middlesbrough defender Emanuel Pogatetz is a recognisable name for football fans, and he is poised to start against the Hornets.
