Mauricio Pochettino admitted that he is 'embarrassed' after overseeing his Tottenham Hotspur side fall to a second consecutive 1-0 defeat at Wembley in the UEFA Champions League.

Pochettino had no excuses for the loss

Kevin Kampl's 65th-minute winner was enough to win the match for the Germans. Spurs failed to snatch a point despite Eric Dier's late free-kick hitting the crossbar.

The Argentinian refused to make any excuses after the game for his side's defeat to Bayer Leverkusen that now means that they sit third in the group and face an uphill battle to qualify for the knockout stages.

Pochettino said, "we were poor" throughout the game and "I have nothing to say about Wembley, we were poor" which wasn't good as the team really needed to win the game.

The Argentinean added that "if we analyse the game" he felt his team "created the same number of chances" but he always had the feeling that is was going to be "difficult to score" against a well drilled Leverkusen team.

Pochettino felt that his team didn't have the "freedom to play and show real quality" which lead to his side getting frustrated throughout the game. The Spurs boss continued to say that "after two games at Wembley, both have been poor" which he says "is not an excuse, it is the truth" as now Spurs have a real battle on their hands to progress through the group stages.

Pochettino urges his team to start winning again

This latest loss means that Spurs now have gone six games without a win since they dismantled Manchester City at White Hart Lane 2-0. Next up things doesn't get much easier as the team travel to the Emirates to play Arsenal in the North London Derby on Sunday and Pochettino has urged his side to start winning again.

Pochettino said that "we need to improve and change some things" after this bad run the team are on and he continued to say that "we need to be critical and find answers" and start winning again in order to keep up with the other teams in both the Premier League and the Champions League.
