Leeds United have agreed to a three-year contract with on-loan goalkeeper Ilian Meslier that will see the Frenchman remain at Elland Road on a permanent basis as the club prepares for life in the Premier League.

Signing a deal until the summer of 2023 after being with the Whites on a season-long loan from Ligue 2 outfit FC Lorient, the 20-year old made ten appearances for the second-tier champions, keeping seven clean sheets.

'I always wanted to stay'

Speaking to LUTV after the official signing, Meslier said "it's unbelievable, we are in the Premier League and today I've signed for Leeda United permanently, so I'm very happy. It's a dream come true because next season we are in the Premier League.

"My objective when I arrived was to stay here, Leeds United is perfect, the supporters, club and stadium, along with the team is unbelievable so I always wanted to stay."

'I am very happy with the moments we have had'

After arriving at the club, Meslier was Kiko Casilla's backup until he was handed an eight-month ban for racism, which thrust the Frenchman into the starting spot.

"When I first came into the team it was difficult because we needed to win every game and we were playing for first place so of course this is a pressure. But after this, with my teammates, it is very easy to play with them and I am very happy with the moments we've had.

"For a goalkeeper I am young, but it is not a problem if you are at the required level, so it is okay. I always train at 100 percent, I want to start next season and I hope we can play lots of big games here at Elland Road."
