Crystal Palace earned a 1-1 draw against Tottenham Hotspur who qualify for the UEFA Europa League at Selhurst Park on Sunday afternoon as the Premier League 2019/20 season comes to an end.

The Eagles were in danger of losing eight games in a row coming into the final day game against Spurs and they were unlucky not to get all three points in this fixture.

Harry Kane opened the scoring for Tottenham with a smart finish after Palace failed to clear their lines. It was looking like another repeat of the Wolves and Manchester United game at this point.

The Eagles had other ideas with Jeffrey Schlupp equalising shortly after the interval. Scott Dann's header from a corner found Jordan Ayew who scuffed his effort and Schlupp was quickest to react to smash the ball into the roof of the net.

  • Schlupp shows his worth

Schlupp like Mamadou Sakho has been riddled with injuries this season and has had few highlights since his winner against Bournemouth when Palace were down to 10 men.

Since returning from injury, Schlupp has provided that extra pace that Palace have needed in midfield for most of the season. The Ghanian earned a start against Tottenham and it is clear to see why.

Schlupp is a player in midfield that is always capable of scoring a goal and he seems to have a habit of scoring important goals every season. It was no surprise to see that he was the quickest to the loose ball to gain a point for the Eagles.

  • Mitchell is one for the future

On his debut, Tyrick Mitchell had the difficult task of defending against Adama Traore on Monday night. The second goal of that game was partially his fault for letting Traore get the cross in but he showed promising signs of reading the game and going forward.

On Sunday afternoon, Mitchell did a great job in keeping Lucas Moura quiet and linked up well with Wilfried Zaha at times when going forward. Could another Aaron Wan-Bissaka be on the way?

Only time will tell with Mitchell but he has put himself in the good books for next season even when the future of Roy Hodgson is uncertain at the moment.

  • Could Kouyate be a good makeshift centre-back?

Sakho picked up an injury in the 2-0 defeat to Wolves and Cheikhou Kouyate was brought in to replace him. Originally a defensive midfielder, Kouyate did well to manage Kane after his opener.

With James Tomkins and Sakho likely to be injury-prone, Kouyate can be used as a centre-back if Martin Kelly is not preferred. New signing Nathan Ferguson could also makeshift as a centre-back as well.

Kouyate provided a versatile solution for Hodgson which makes him a regular in the first-team for Palace especially if they have an injury problem next season.

  • Palace need to solve their goalscoring problem next season

This was a good point for Palace who ended their run of seven defeats in the Premier League but 31 goals in 38 league games is not good enough at this level.

They steered clear of the relegation battle after the restart but Hodgson and his men have to hope for better next season with fans growing tired of fighting for relegation rather than fighting for Europe.

The lack of goals is alarming and there were only two shots on target out of 13 which meant that they could have had all three points. The desire to bolster the squad is needed to avoid a look over the shoulder when the 2020/21 season starts on September 12.
