Reports suggest that Leeds United have reached an agreement with SD Huesca for the signing of Samuel Sáiz for a fee of around £3 million.

The signing has not officially been completed yet as the 26-year-old is understood to be undergoing a medical with the club in the near future which he will need to pass before being able to join up with The Championship side. It is hoped that he is able to join up with the rest of the Leeds squad in the next few days.

A quality addition to Leeds' squad

Thomas Christiansen stated that he was hoping that a couple of deals would be finalised in the near future and it appears that Sáiz is one of those.

Leeds kick-off their 2017/18 campaign with a trip to the Macron Stadium to face Bolton Wanderers in August and it is hoped that Sáiz is the first of a couple more additions before then.

If Sáiz does decide to join Leeds, it will be a real coup for the club as the 26-year-old clearly has the potential to be a quality addition at this level.

Sáiz came through the youth academy at Real Madrid and has since gone on to play for the likes of Melilla, Getafe, Atletico Madrid B and most recently SD Huesca.

It was not until he made the move to El Alcoraz, that he finally started to get going in his career. He originally joined Huesca on a season-long loan from Atletico and this turned out to be a successful move.

He made 21 appearances in the Segunda Divisón, scoring twice in the process. This led to him signing a permanent deal at the club in 2016.

The fact he had finally settled down at a club appeared to allow Sáiz to flourish this season. He managed to score 12 goals, a career best, as he made 43 appearances for the club in a season which ultimately ended in play-off disappointment.

Leeds see off considerable competition

Due to Sáiz's impressive performances last season, Leeds were not the only team interested in securing his signature.

A host of other Spanish clubs were considering making a move after watching him develop last season. SD Eibar are the most notable team from Spain to be interested and could have offered Sáiz a chance to shine in La Liga

It is very difficult to analyse whether Sáiz will be worth the reported £3 million fee or not.

This is mainly because it is impossible to predict how players from overseas will settle into English football, especially the highly demanding league that is the Championship. If Sáiz is able to settle, then his pedigree makes him look like a very astute signing for Leeds.

The Spaniard will become Leeds' sixth signing of the summer under the management of Christiansen as the likes of Vernon Anita, Felix Wiedwald, Pontus Jansson, Mateusz Klich and Hadi Sacko have already arrived at Elland Road.

All of these players will be hoping to make a positive impact and help Leeds challenge for a place in the Premier League once again next season.
