Serena Williams coasted through to the fourth round beating Daria Kasatkina 6-1 6-1. The world number one was never troubled in the match and showed no evidence of being hindered by injury as she brushed aside the Russian.

Williams showed straight away that she wanted the match over quickly as she raced into a 3-0 lead, Kasatkina then got on the scoreboard before the American reeled off three more games to win the first set. The second set was almost a carbon copy of the first as Williams won six games whilst only letting one go.

Sharapova also still in the mix

Maria Sharapova also advanced, however in more difficult circumstances against American Lauren Davis eventually emerging victorious in a 6-1 6-7(5) 6-0 win, the 600th of her career.

It looked to be a routin win for Sharapova after winning the first set 6-1 and then being a break up in the second set. However, Davis earnt the break back before managing to take the set to a tie-break. In a pulsating tie-break it was to be Davis who would win it taking the match to a final set. This appeared to rouse Sharapova as she would then go on to win the next six games to advance to the next round.

Agnieszka Radwanska completed the trio of high seed victories on the day. Defeating Monica Puig 6-4 6-0, the Pole extended her record for the year to 8-0 as she continued her great form. In a tight first set Radwanska seized the advantage, breaking to win the set. The second set was to be a quick affair for Radwanska as she wrapped up the match with a 6-0 set in just 28 minutes.
