Stanislas Wawrinka is once again into the quarterfinals of a Grand Slam tournament after defeating Frenchman Giles Simon, who in spite of a popular home support, couldn't capitalise and succumbed 6-1, 6-4, 6-2 to the Swiss.

Wawrinka started off in tremendous fashion and within first 10 minutes he was up 3-0 against the Frenchman . Giles Simon was initially just feeding off his opponent's errors as he first came on board after quite a struggle to make it 3-1. The Swiss was ruthless with his backhand and was notching up winners cleanly and in a deadly fashion as his adversary could only stand and applaud.  Wawrinka broke once again at 4-1 and took the first set 6-1.

Simon fought back in the second set or at least kept pace with Stan as neither of them could break the others serve. The Frenchman started to find his range and was more accurate with his forehand before a series of errors at 4-4 gave away the game to Wawrinka, and the Swiss served for the set at 5-4. He easily claimed the set at 6-4 .

Since then there was no looking back for Stan as he was sensing victory plus Simon seemed like he was surrendering the match and had lost hope for any chance of a comeback.

Wawrinka broke early in the 3rd set and immediately took control once again. His fastest serve was 213 kmph and was quite consistent with it leaving no chance for Simon to even sniff a break point. Eventually the inevitable took place as Wawrinka wrapped up the match 6-1 6-4 6-2.

Wawrinka now awaits the winner of the match between Gael Monfils and Roger Federer
