The quarterfinals of the junior doubles draws took place on Friday at the French Open, with nearly every match being decided in straight sets. It’s been a poor tournament for seeded teams, and that trend continued on Friday, with only one seeded team left in each draw. Here’s what happened in the junior doubles on Friday in Paris.

Girls

Top seeds Olesya Pervushina and Anastasia Potapova faced their toughest test yet at the tournament, but still emerged victorious against Eleni Christofi and Ines Ibbou.  After having only dropped four games through two matches, The Russian pairing came up clutch at the key moments, breaking late in both sets for a 7-5, 7-5 victory. In the semifinals, they will take on the Italian pair of Tatiana Pieri and Lucrezia Stefanini, who were victorious in their quarterfinal 6-4, 7-5.

Mayuka Aikawa and Ylena In-Albon finally had an easy match, winning their quarterfinal in straight sets after needing super tiebreaks to win both of their first two matches. The Japanese/Swiss pair blew out Jaimee Fourlis and Karman Kaur Thandi 6-0, 6-2. They will take on Paula Arias Manjon and Olga Danilovic in the semis. The Spanish/Serbian team was nearly as dominant, winning their quarterfinal 6-1, 6-2.

Boys

Australian Open champions Alex De Minaur and Blake Ellis cruised into the quarterfinals with a straight sets win. The Aussies only dropped four games in a 6-1, 6-3 victory over the Italian/Japanese team of Riccardo Balzerani and Yuta Shimizu, who had upset the number one seeds in the second round. They will take on Ysiah Oliel and Patrik Rikl in the semifinals. The Israeli/Czech pair needed a tiebreak and a super tiebreak to upset the fourth-seeded team of Jay Clarke and Stefanos Tsitsapis 7-6(8), 2-6, [10-8].

The only seeded team left standing in the boys’ doubles draw is the pairing of Miomir Kecmanovic and Casper Ruud, who defeated the fifth seeds Youssef Hossam and Jurabek Karimov 6-4, 6-4. They will play Chung Yun-seong and Orlando Luz, who continued their hot run with another upset of a seeded team. A day after upsetting the second seeds, the Korean/Brazilian team topped the seventh seeds John McNally and Jeffrey John Wolf in straight sets 6-4, 6-3 to set a semifinal clash with Kecmanovic and Ruud.

The semifinals will take place tomorrow.
