Philippe Coutinho is well-regarded as one of a very few successful signings that Brendan Rodgers has made in his tenure at Liverpool, and the Northern Irishman was keen to hail the Brazilian's talents on Wednesday night.

After a stellar performance from a central role, Coutinho scored the winning goal in stoppage time - looping an effort up over Bolton goalkeeper Andy Lonergan, off the underside of the bar and in for the Reds to progress to the next round 2-1.

The spectacular winning goal came just a day after Coutinho signed a new-and-improved long-term contract at Anfield, and Rodgers insisted that the 22-year-old's stock is rising rapidly on his recent form.

"He's on his way to becoming world class," the Ulsterman said. "You'd just pay money to watch that kid."

Coutinho has been in sensational form since the Reds switched to a 3-4-3 formation in mid-Deember, notching two fine assists in Liverpool's 2-0 win over West Ham United on Saturday, in addition to his fine strike that secured a place in the Fifth Round of the FA Cup last night.

Rodgers added: "You watch how he plays football and I think he's a great role model for lots of technical players in this country - young British players that maybe for many years would have been discarded because they were technically good but maybe not as big in stature.

"He'll become world class in the next couple of years. We had Luis Suarez who was at that level, played in this team and he grew and grew with the game model and rightly went into the world-class bracket."

Rodgers praise quickly took a leap, when he suggested that the Brazilian's progress has been similar to that of ex-Red Luis Suarez, who lit up the league with 31 goals last season.

"I can see Coutinho following a similar sort of line," the Liverpool boss stated. "He might not be as prolific as Suarez was, but he's certainly on the way to that level.

"He's a wonderful, wonderful player and signing the new deal shows he's really committed to Liverpool and his development."

Coutinho's effort came just minutes after Raheem Sterling had equalised for the visitors, latching onto an inch-perfect scooped pass from Emre Can up and over the defence, before volleying into the bottom corner with a first-time finish.

The German, who arrived in the summer for £10 million, has been in excellent form recently and added a real impetus in the midfield in the final 10 minutes. Rodgers is confident that like Coutinho, Can has a lot more to show on Merseyside.

"He's a kid that is going to go on and be a big player for this team, but also Germany as well," said the Reds' manager. "You see his stature in the game; he can defend, he can pass, he is quick and powerful, then you see his pass for the goal - a wonderful pass.

"A lot of these young players are standing up and being counted now, the likes of Emre, young Phil Coutinho and Raheem - these are guys that are playing exceptionally well at the moment.

"Emre is getting great confidence from playing every week."
