Wolverhampton Wanderers' new manager Nuno Espirito Santo has made his third signing of the summer today as defender Phil Ofosu-Ayeh joined the club from Eintracht Braunschweig on a free transfer following the expiration of his contract at the German side.
The Ghanaian joins the likes of Roderick Miranda and Ryan Bennett who have already joined the Championship club this summer from Rio Ave and Norwich City respectively.
A potential hidden gem
Ofosu-Ayeh arrives at Molineux as a relatively low risk transfer for the West Midlands club as he arrives on a free transfer following the expiration of his contract with Eintracht Braunshweig at the end of June. However, this does not mean that he does not have the credentials to be an astute addition ahead of next season.
He has spent his whole career in Germany to date, playing for the likes of SV Wilhelmshaven, FC Rot-Weiß Erfurt, MSV Duisburg, VfR Aaelen and most recently Eintracht Braunschweig. This has seen him clock up 187 appearances so far in his career so he clearly arrives with a wealth of experience.
The 25-year-old will add depth to a squad which is already well stocked in the defensive area. He will have to compete with the likes of Matt Doherty, Silvio Sa Pereira, Danny Batth, Dominic Iorfa, Kortney Hause, Ethan Ebanks-Landell, Ryan Bennett and Roderick Miranda for a place in Nuno Espirito Santo's starting line-up next season as the club looks to challenge for a place in the Premier League.
Happy to join such a 'big club'
The Ghanaian defender is looking forward to the new challenge of playing in English football. He told Wolves' official site: "For me it was always a dream to play in England. And now I’ve seen everything here, I know that it’s a very big club and a traditional club. I’m very happy that I have the chance to play here."
He is also very excited for what Wolves might be able to achieve in the upcoming season. He added: "I’m very excited about everything - the club, the fans and my team mates so I’m ready for my journey here."
