Wolverhampton Wanderers' new manager Nuno Espírito Santo has made the club's eighth signing of the summer today as goalkeeper Will Norris joined the club from League Two side Cambridge United for an undisclosed fee.

Wolves will now be looking to secure further additions in this transfer window with another attacking player high on the list of priorities ahead of next season.

A huge career move for Norris

There is no doubt that this a huge personal career move for Norris and one that he will want to take advantage of. His background is non-league as he came through the youth academy at Northwood and also featured for Hatfield Town, Royston Town and Braintree Town

He decided to make the move to Cambridge in 2012 as he signed a two-year deal with the club after some impressive performances in non-league. It was not until 2014 that Norris made his debut for the side after several loan spells elsewhere. However, since then he went on to secure his place as the club's first choice goalkeeper.

The 23-year-old made a total of 93 appearances for the U's and was described as the "best goalkeeper in League Two" by his manager Shaun Derry. His performances have not gone unnoticed and he has now signed a three-year deal with Wolves and will be looking to make his mark in The Championship next season.

A surprise addition to Wolves' squad

This deal may come as a surprise to many due to the fact that Wolves signed keeper John Ruddy on a free transfer from Norwich City only a matter of days ago. However, due to the upsetting news of Wolves keeper Carl Ikeme being diagnosed with acute leukaemia last week, the club needed to bolster their goalkeeping options further.

Wolves' busy summer of transfer activity is showing no signs of slowing down and Norris joins the likes of Barry Douglas, Phil Ofosu-Ayeh, Roderick Miranda, Ryan Bennett, Rúben Neves and Ruddy who have all already arrived at Molineux this summer.

Norris is looking forward to what he sees as a 'fantastic opportunity' to impress next season. He told Wolves' official site: “This is a fantastic opportunity at a fantastic football club and was something I just couldn’t say no to. I have been playing regularly for Cambridge over the last 18 months or so and now know I have a battle for a place which is a great challenge."

However, he did feel disappointed to be leaving Cambridge after such a successful spell at the club. He added: “I am a little bit sad to be leaving but obviously I am leaving for a great opportunity and a new challenge here at Wolves.”
