Port Vale manager Darrell Clarke says that he is very disappointed as he feels a refereeing call for Matty Stevens' late goal cost the Valiants the win after they drew 1-1 at home to League Two leaders Forest Green Rovers.

Ryan Edmondson's first goal for the club gave the hosts the lead inside 12 minutes, but despite creating very little, Stevens' close range strike with nine minutes to go sealed his 17th league goal of the season as well as a point for the Rovers.

Disappointed to only come away with a point

Even though Vale were going into the game as underdogs considering that they were coming up against a side that had not lost on the road in the league all season, it is clear that Clarke was still frustrated to have not come away with maximum points.

"I am very disappointed," he said. "Very disappointed that there are two offsides that lead to a corner to their goal that cost us the game.

"I am disappointed for my players, I am disappointed for my supporters. I though both of those sets were outstanding today and I thought we deserved to win."

Clarke added: "I want to win so I am frustrated. I am frustrated that we didn't defend the corner better, but we should have a free kick and the ball should be in their half.

"Disappointed, but pleased with the effort and commitment of everybody tonight."

On the conditions of the pitch

The 44-year-old further went on to speak about the condition of the Vale Park pitch, saying that it is not suitable for playing football on and when the time is right it needs to be addressed.

"The pitch is not conjunctive to playing football, it is a park pitch. That is not me having a dig at the ground staff, it is just that the pitch is not suitable for the modern day.

"We all know that and we will address it when we can. We have got fantastic support at ownership level.

"It just doesn't help at getting the ball down. You see how lively it is and certainly the conditions of the last two games with the wind out there as well, I wouldn't say it has been great games of football to watch.

"But I am really pleased with the commitment and desire."
