Marko Grujić insisted that he can't wait to get to work at Liverpool once he returns from his loan spell at Red Star Belgrade at the end of the season.

The 19-year-old inked a five-year contract with the club worth around £17,000-a-week earlier this week to make his £5.1 million switch from boyhood club Red Star official.

Having put pen-to-paper on his move to Merseyside, Grujić will now return to his homeland to see out the rest of the current campaign with Red Star - who are on course for their third Serbian SuperLiga title since the league was founded in 2006.

But before jetting back off to Serbia, Grujić - Klopp's first signing since his managerial appointment in October - sat down with Liverpoolfc.com to discuss his feelings after completing the move.

The versatile teenager, who can play either as an attacking midfielder or as a defensive-minded holding midfielder, insisted that he is "very excited" and "so proud" to be a part of the club and insisted he "can't wait to get started" and to "play at Anfield and train at Melwood."

He admitted that it hadn't quite sunk in as he spoke to the club's official website, but insisted he is "very happy and excited" to have secured his switch to Merseyside.

When asked to explain his style, he said that he "can play as a defensive, central or attacking midfielder" who likes to "try a lot to shoot during games, like a box-to-box midfielder" and "can improve" upon his "defensive qualities" as he explained that central midfield is "best" for him.

Despite accepting that he has plenty of progress to make, Grujić is confident that he can adapt physically when he moves to England, saying that he has "good height" and if he does "more fitness training to adapt" then his body "can do everything" he needs it to do.

Grujić has no qualms about having to adapt to English football

After having to battle off several big European clubs in order to secure his signature, Grujić was swayed towards Liverpool after speaking one-on-one with manager Klopp - who explained his plans for the player and the club over the next few years.

Speaking more about the chat he held with the Reds boss, the player revealed that Klopp told him he "must be relaxed" about "coming to a big club, one of the biggest in Europe."

He added that the boss told him when it gets to the start of pre-season in the summer that he needs to "concentrate" on his "job on the pitch and that's it."

He explained that Klopp spoke "very well" to him over the phone in December, which persuaded him to decide "it was good" for his development to come to England and "try to be the best" he can.

Teenager relishing his move to Merseyside

Grujić admitted to having some nerves about the deal, especially when he spoke to Klopp, but said that the boss made him feel "at ease" about the move, as well as helping to ensure he's aware of what's needed to adapt to a faster pace, more physical style of football in England.

He explained that he has only played in the Serbian league so far, which he assessed as "not as high a level" as the Barclays Premier League but said that "after three or four months" and with "good preparation" then he'll "be able to play" in England's top-flight.

He insisted he's relishing the opportunity to "play in front of one of the loudest set of fans in Europe at Anfield" due to passion and intensity of the "very good" crowds in England, insisting he will not let fervent atmospheres intimidate him, instead saying that he enjoys to "play under pressure" and will give his best in front of them.

And he believes he will by able to benefit from watching Liverpool's games from afar, saying that he has watched "every game" since he was linked with them a few months ago. He declared that he had watched them before but now watches every single game, explaining that Klopp's side have "been unlucky in some games" but will "take many points" in the next period of the season and "can finish in one of the top-four positions in the league."

But knowing that he won't move to Liverpool until the summer, Grujić insists that he "must now concentrate" on "finishing" his job at Red Star - explaining that he dreamt of winning the Serbian championship with them as a young child and he wants to finish the season with his "Red Star family" before he can dedicate 100 per cent concentration to the job on hand at Liverpool.

He said it would be "very good" and "incredible" to win the title in his country before making the move, saying it would allow him to do his best. Nevertheless, he vowed to give "200 per cent in every training session and match" once he does move, laying down the objective of winning trophies during his stay at the club.
