ST PAUL, Minn. -- Normally, it's the St. Paul Saints who are on the winning end of lopsided scores. But on Saturday night, it was the Laredo Lemurs who gave the Saints a taste of their own medicine, as they put up nine runs en route to a 9-3 win over the league-leading Saints.

St. Paul strikes first

St. Paul actually got the scoring started, as in the bottom of the second inning when Angelo Songco led off with a walk. He scored when Trever Adams hit a home run to left field to put the Saints up 2-0.

Laredo responds with nine runs in four innings

That was the only lead of the night for the Saints, and it did not last very long, as Laredo put up three runs in the top of the fourth inning after Leandro Castro led off with a single. He stole second and scored when J.D. Pulfer doubled to left field. Jesus Posso followed with a single that scored Cesar Valera, who had drawn a walk, and Pulfer to put the Lemurs up 3-2.

Laredo was back at it in the fifth when Castro drew a one-out walk. He advanced to second when Denis Phipps singled and scored when the Saints threw the ball around on the infield, which also allowed Phipps to advance to second. Phipps later scored when Zane Chavez singled to right field to extend the Lemurs lead to three runs.

They added three more in the sixth, and one more in the seventh when Jesus Posso homered to left field, and that was all they needed, as the only run the Saints were able to muster the rest of the game was in the ninth when Songco homered to right field on a ball that upon replay review actually was not a home run, but the umpires were unable to use replay, and the call stood.

Quick Hits

- The loss is just the 20th of the season for the Saints and their eighth home loss. They are now 41-20 on the season but are still eight games up on second-place Winnipeg.

- Adams was one of the few bright spots for the Saints, as he went 3-4 with a home run on the night. His batting average is now .258, which is respectable considering he has been with the team for a very short time.

- Dan Johnson got the start for the Saints, and he got rocked, as in five innings, he gave up five runs on six hits with just four strikeouts. The Knuckleballer from Blaine, Minnesota now has a 1-2 record with a 6.89 ERA.

- The two teams will play the final game of the series on Sunday afternoon when the Saints send RHP Robert Coe (7-2, 3.84). The Lemurs will counter with RHP Barret Loux (3-1, 1.62).
