Reading and Leeds United played out a goalless draw in their second Sky Bet Championship game at the Madejski Stadium on Sunday afternoon.

First chance fell to the hosts

It was Reading who had the first chance of the game when Hal Robson-Kanu won a free-kick two minutes in after a foul from Sol Bamba but the resulting free-kick saw Oliver Norwood curl it straight into the arms of Leeds 'keeper Marco Silvestri.

Stuart Dallas had Leeds' first chance at the other end as he drilled a low shot which Royals keeper Jonathan Bond saved after space opened up for the Northern Irishman.

It was a end-to-end start to the game at the Madejski Stadium but chances of real attempts were few and far between for both Reading and Leeds but Silvestri had to be alert to save a powerful Robson-Kanu effort from distance on the half-hour mark but otherwise both Silvestri and Bond wasn't really tested.

Leeds go close to opening the scoring

Gaetano Berardi then smashed a first-time effort just wide of the post fom a tight angle after the ball found the way to the Leeds right-back before Dallas saw an header loop over the bar following some good play from Alex Mowatt and Sam Byram.

It was a strong end to the first half for Leeds but referee Chris Kavanagh blew for half-time and it remained goalless.

Leeds started the second half on top and enjoyed plenty of the ball but they failed to test Bond in the Reading goal. Tom Adeyemi's brilliant strike from distance was blocked by Norwood, while at the other end Paul McShane saw an header go over the bar from a corner as the game drew towards the hour mark.

Good defensive ensured the game ended in a draw

Brilliant defensive play from both Reading and Leeds prevented both teams from opening the scoring, but Chris Wood thought he opened his Leeds account as he got in behind the Royals defence and fired a half-volley into the side netting as Leeds went in search for a goal to win the game.

Meanwhile at the other end Orlando Sa also fired a effort into the side netting as the hosts also went in search of a winner.

With just four minutes remaining on the clock Wood went close as he collected a long ball on his chest and turned before firing a shot onto the roof of the net. There were three minutes added on at the end of the game but neither Reading or Leeds were able to break the deadlock.
