Having won their first EFL Cup game against Charlton Athletic last week, West Ham United have now come through a tougher challenge against Hull City.

Robert Snodgrass opened the scoring against his old club before Sebastien Haller doubled the Hammers' lead just before half-time. Andriy Yarmolenko made the score 3-0, but shortly after Mallik Wilks got one back for the Tigers.

Fortunately, West Ham managed to kill the game as both Haller and Yarmolenko got their second goals.

Before the final whistle, news broke out that Issa Diop, Josh Cullen and David Moyes have tested positive for COVID-19, but are asymptomatic and have been sent home. We wish all three a speedy and safe return to full health.

  • Story of the game

After the first whistle, the hosts were the ones on the front foot, with Felipe Anderson coming close to scoring twice in the space of five minutes.

Hull tried being in control of the ball but after just a few minutes West Ham were back in possession.

The Hammers enjoyed another good spell as a first-team debutant, Harrison Ashby, nearly scored his first goal for the club after a great solo run, but his shot was straight at the keeper.

And that spell finished with a chance that ended up in the back of the visitor's net.

Some good work from Manuel Lanzini to open space for Andriy Yarmolenko who set-up Robert Snodgrass for him to volley the ball out of George Long's reach.

And the Argentinian was involved yet again as after dribbling past a few Hull defenders, his shot went just outside of the post.

As the first-half was slowly ticking down, Yarmolenko set-up another goal. After managing to force his way through two defenders, the winger set-up Sebastien Haller, who finished it past Long.

Just after the break, Yarmolenko was again looking very lively and after one miss, he finally got his goal.

Haller was pushed inside the area when battling for a header and the following penalty was calmly put away by the Ukrainian winger.

Hull got a bit of hope after an equaliser from Malik Willks, but it led to nothing as they were pushed back to defence shortly after.

In the 90th minute, a good pass from Lanzini found Haller, who rounded the goalkeeper to make it 4-1.

And just a minute later Yarmolenko also got his second with a left-footed shot after a fabulous ball from Anderson.

West Ham need their starmen back

After two games of absence for Felipe Anderson and Sebastien Haller, it's time for David Moyes to bring them back into the Premier League starting XI.

Both players have started in both EFL Cup ties and contributed to seven goals - four goals from Haller, one goal and two assists from Anderson.

And looking at Pablo Fornals' and Michail Antonio's ineffectiveness, they simply have to start against Wolverhampton Wanderers on Sunday.
