Edin Dzeko, Miralem Pjanic and Avdija Vrsaljevic found the back of net as Safet Susic bidded farewell to his post as manager. The other manager, Carlos Queiroz, and his side needed a win to progress but his team's usual defensive solidness was not on display.

The match started off with Bosnia on the front foot, but without any major chances. Iran stuck to the defensive formation and tactics that earned them a draw against Nigeria and hard fought loss against Argentina. Dzeko struck the first chance with a header from Tino-Sven Susic's corner, but the keeper was there to make the save.

Iran's defense was finally broken when Manchester City striker Edin Dzeko made a darting run and fired home in off the post with a driven shot just outside the box. Dzeko had scored his first ever goal at the World Cup and Bosnia's second ever at a major tournament.

As the match restarted, Iran pressed forward and hit the crossbar before the follow up effort was ruled as offside. The first half continued with Bosnia on the offensive, but without a major chance.

The half came to a close when Avdija Vrsaljevic missed Ibisevic and the goal when inside the box. Susic's men were 1-0 in their farewell match.

The second half started just as the first with Bosnia controlling the match. Iran tried to string together a few passes in defense, but a high press from Bosnia's midfield found them in possession. Susic picked out Pjanic on the edge of the box and the Roma midfielder fired home for 2-0.

As the half went on, Bosnia and Iran went back and forth as the Dragons looked to control the game. However, in the 80th minute, Iran pulled one back through Reza, giving them a glimmer of hope.

However, that was immediately destroyed when Avdija Vrsaljevic bombed down the right and sweetly struck for 3-1, his first ever goal for the national team and it secured his country's first ever win at a major tournament.

Thus, the match came to an end with both teams set to return home.
