PSG defender Thiago Silva has been ruled out of their crucial UEFA Champions League tie with Barcelona on Tuesday night.

The Brazilian suffered a thigh problem during last week’s first-leg, in which PSG were beaten 3-1 at the Parc Des Princes. This injury also kept him out of the 3-1 victory over Nice on Saturday, which kept them a point above Lyon in Ligue 1.

He was included in the initial squad for the trip to Spain but he will instead remain in France to work on his rehabilitation.

A statement from the club said: "Having initially being named in the squad for the quarter-final against Barcelona, Brazilian defender Thiago Silva will not ultimately make the trip.

"The captain of Paris Saint-Germain will therefore remain at the Ooredoo training centre to work on his return to action."

Silva who joined from AC Milan back in 2011 for a reported €42 million has made 30 appearances so far this campaign scoring two goals.

Thiago Silva will be joined on side lines by injured Thiago Motta and suspended Serge Aurier. However, Marco Verratti and former Barcelona player Zlatan Ibrahimovic will return for the trip to the Nou Camp.
