Elena Rybakina is the champion of 2022 Wimbledon after a 3-6, 6-2, 6-2 victory over Ons Jabeur in the Ladies' Singles final to capture her first major title.

Jabeur, the first Arab woman to reach a major final, broke twice to take the first set, but was powerless over the final two sets as Rybakina dialed in her big-hitting game to dominate the remainder of the match.

At 23, the Kazakh is the youngest player to claim the championship since Petra Kvitova won the first of her two titles at the All-England Club.

Story of the match

After each player held comfortably to open the match, Jabeur struck first, mixing up her shots and that led to an error from the baseline by Rybakina on break point to put the Tunisian in front 2-1.

The third seed nearly led by a double break, but Rybakina was able to stay in touch, saving a break point to stay in touch.

She wasn't as fortunate in her next service game, going long with a pair of forehands, eventually broken to love to put Jabeur in pole position, the winner of the first set taking the last 14 Ladies' titles.

Out of nowhere, the Tunisian was broken to open the second set, missing on her own forehand on break point, giving Rybakina the boost of confidence she was looking for.

The 17th seed saved a break point in the fourth game and quickly asserted herself, her power forcing Jabeur to go long and with it, a double-break advantage at 4-1.

Serving for the set, Rybakina encountered no problems, an ace on set point forcing a decider, the second consecutive year the championship match has gone to a third set.

A break to open the final set with a volley winner sent Rybakina on her way and after saving three break points in the sixth game with some serve-and-volley tennis, she stood two games from the title.

Gaining a double break gave the Kazakh a cushion as she attempted to serve out the match and after a Jabeur forehand goes wide, Rybakina has championship point, converted on an error by the Tunisian.
