Former Scunthorpe United striker Rory Fallon will return to the club for pre-season training in a bid to win a new deal.

Fallon joined the Irons in September last year on a short-term deal and the Kiwi had scored three goals in four league appearances, including scoring a goal on his Scunthorpe début in a 3-2 loss to Oldham Athletic.

However he then suffered a knee ligament injury in manager Mark Robins' first game in charge against Colchester in October.

This injury has kept him sidelined until now - "I'm pretty much ready to go," Fallon told the Scunthorpe Telegraph.

Fallon, with the teams blessing, has conducted his recovery and rehabilitation at Glanford Park – a place he says ‘feels like home’ – and though he insists he knows there are no guarantees, he is determined to make the most of Robins’ invite to train with the rest of the squad during pre-season.

"I've been in the gym most days, I haven't had many days off - even when I went to America I was still doing gym stuff.

"I'm coming up to the eight-month mark now (since suffering the injury), which is usually the time you should be ready.

"I'm doing what I need to do to get ready for pre-season at Scunthorpe.

"The manager has said to come in pre-season and if I do well, there may be a contract for me.

"There are no promises - I know the nature of the business." said Fallon.

York City were also interested in the services of the New Zealand International but Fallon had no qualms about returning to Scunthorpe.

“I had an offer to go to York for pre-season but I feel I belong at Scunthorpe and that I’m one of the squad. With what’s gone on I feel this is the club for me during pre-season and then we’ll see what happens.” said the striker.

Experienced striker

Fallon has a great deal of knowledge of playing in the Football League with the likes of Barnsley and Swindon among the list of his former clubs.

Perhaps his most well known spells came at Swansea City and Plymouth Argyle where he commanded big transfer fees.

He signed for Swansea City in January 2006 for a fee believed to be £300,000, the second highest fee ever paid by the Welsh club at the time.

A productive spell followed for the striker at the Swans, scoring 13 goals in all competitions from 48 appearances.

This prompted interest from Championship side Plymouth Argyle and they paid £300,000 for Fallon in January 2007.
