Watford midfielder Adlene Guedioura says the side will not back off against Chelsea at the weekend as the Hornets have their sights set firmly on getting their first win of the new season.
New Blues manager Antonio Conte brings his side to Vicarage Road on Saturday, with Walter Mazzarri all set to experience the home of the Hornets for the very first time in a competitive match.
Chelsea got their season up and running with a 2-1 victory over West Ham United on Monday, but Algerian international Guedioura says Watford have no intention of trying to hold their opponents at bay.
Hornets will be motivated for Chelsea clash
The midfielder, who played in Watford's opening day draw with Southampton, stated that they will be looking to go on the front foot straight away and look to get something out of the game, as well as their next match with Arsenal.
“We’ve not really set any points targets, it’s going to be tough with teams like this coming up but we are at home,” he said to the Watford Observer.
The 30-year-old believes the side doesn’t need motivation for the big games against the top sides, as they are the games “you want to play in and win”.
There are plenty of new faces in the Hornets side now, after new manager Mazzarri brought in a whole host of players over the summer.
Watford can capitalise at the weekend
Record signing Isaac Success and former Liverpool winger Jerome Sinclair are just two of the six players that the Italian head coach has brought in to boost Watford’s arsenal going into the new season.
Conte arrived at Chelsea this summer too, and will be looking to improve on their lacklustre tenth-placed finish last season.
Guedioura believes that because Conte hasn’t been at the Blues long, Watford can take advantage and pick something up on Saturday.
He added: “It is the same for us and Chelsea are at the same stage as us with a new manager. We really want to show the fans we can compete in matches like these, and win them as well.”
