Hope for Tottenham

Spurs sporting director Fabio Paratici is one of the best around. He has a wonderful reputation for spotting talent and the signing of Cristian Romero illustrates this. He will be key to Tottenham's revival, but don't expect any quick miracles. They're at the start of a new journey now.

Lasting thoughts

There is a big gap between these two teams. Chelsea are one or two signings away from a serious title push while Tottenham will be lucky to finish in a Europa League position. I'm serious! They are in danger of falling out of relevancy, especially if Kane departs.

Anonymous Alli

Dele Alli had scored in back-to-back games but he was well off it today. Slow, ponderous and lacking in energy. This is a big season for the midfielder. Jose Mourinho lost faith in him but this is a new chance for him. He needs to make it count!

Chances or misses?

Do Tuchel's Chelsea create enough or do they miss too much? Tough question. Manchester City and Liverpool miss lots of chances but they just keep providing for their attackers. With that in mind, many do not feel they need to be more ruthless.

Chelsea didn't create too many clear openings today, but they did have chances. A Lukaku-type striker probably gets on the scoresheet if he is presented with Werner's two opportunities. That could be their answer to this question.

Why create more when someone can finish off the same amount of chances more clinically? It's an open question!

Saving face for Nuno Espirito Santo

It was a tough day at the office for the new Tottenham boss. His team were outplayed for most of the match but they hung in and snatched a draw. Gollini did himself no harm between the sticks while Lucas and Bergwijn remained calm under pressure at the other end. A pleasing result considering the performance.

Good times for Thomas Tuchel!

Tuchel will have seen more positives than negatives. His team were tactically flexible and they terrorised Tottenham for large periods. He will have been frustrated at a lack of efficiency in attacking areas, though, which is perhaps why Lukaku is being lined up.

Full-time: Chelsea 2-2 Tottenham

And that's a wrap! A great game to watch. Chelsea impressive for large periods but two defensive lapses cost them dearly.

Tottenham will be happy with the character that they were able to show. At 2-0 down, they were well and truly out of this contest but Lucas Moura and Steven Bergwijn didn't read the script.

Both teams will be happy in different ways. Tuchel with the performance and Nuno with the result.

ADDED TIME! Chelsea 2-2 Tottenham

90: Three added minutes!

Chelsea 2-2 Tottenham

89: Chelsea trying to work a winner but Dier blocks behind. Kennedy's corner is also well cleared. Spurs hanging on but they look like they'll get a draw.

Chelsea 2-2 Tottenham

84: Poor free-kick from Son and Chelsea are back with the ball. Chelsea have lost their rhythm really, but Loftus-Cheek is demanding the ball. Maybe he can make something happen?

Chelsea 2-2 Tottenham

83: Ampadu late on Aurier and he receives a rare pre-season yellow. Good free-kick opportunity. A good angle for a cross. Spurs finally growing into the game.

The equaliser

Spurs subs

OFF THE LINE! Chelsea 2-2 Tottenham

78: Good move from Spurs and Davies is in behind. His shot across goal has Mendy beaten but Ampadu make a last-ditch clearance. Spurs sensing they could win this!

Chelsea 2-2 Tottenham

76: Chelsea were running away with this and, in truth, it's the changes that have cost them. That won't bother Tuchel because pre-season is about fitness first and foremost.

Another change

SAVE! Chelsea 2-2 Tottenham

73: Pulisic slipped Abraham in but the striker was denied on an angle by the body of Gollini.

OVER! Chelsea 2-2 Tottenham

69: Pulisic spooned an effort over the bar almost immediately after the equaliser. Quite remarkable how this match is level!

GOAL!!! BERGWIJN EQUALISER!

68: Sarr has had a bit of a nightmare there. He lets Bergwijn in and the winger manages to squeeze a shot through the legs of Mendy. Both defender and goalkeeper will be disappointed.

Deflected finish from Lucas Moura!

SAVE! Chelsea 2-1 Tottenham

65: Young Anjorin shifted inside and tried to curl an effort in with his weaker left boot. Smart save from the Spurs keeper.

Chelsea 2-1 Tottenham

65: Zappacosta one of the substitutes. A forgotten man at Stamford Bridge but he is a vastly experienced wing-back. Scored a stunning goal in the Champions League against Qarabag!

Here are the subs. Not even going to try!

Chelsea 2-1 Tottenham

62: Pulisic dribbled past several challenges but he elected to find Werner. Werner tried to tee up Alonso and Spurs managed to clear. That lack of ruthlessness has reared its head a touch.

SAVE! Chelsea 2-1 Tottenham

61: Trademark long range shot from Rudiger. Simple enough save for Gollini.

Chelsea 2-1 Tottenham

59: Chelsea looked to respond immediately with Pulisic but he couldn't get in behind. A blow to Tuchel's team as they were in complete control.

GOAL!!! LUCAS HALVES THE LEAD!

56: Tottenham break and Lucas finds Alli. The midfielder slows down the play and inadvertently plays it back to the Brazilian. Lucas turns and his shot deflects over Mendy. Fortunate but game-on!

END-TO-END! Chelsea 2-0 Tottenham

52: Doherty goes down in the box under some contact from Alonso. Referee waves play on. Chelsea counter brilliantly but Werner screws wide from a presentable position. Some things never change!

GOAL! ZIYECH DOUBLE!!! (2-0)

49: Great finish again. Alonso does well to chase down Havertz's forward pass. The Spaniard hooks the ball back into the box and Ziyech composes himself before rifling a shot into the far corner, via a slight deflection.

SPURS CHANGE

CHANCE! Chelsea 1-0 Tottenham

47: Big chance for Son but he can't turn his effort on target. Ball into the box and Chalobah couldn't get to the South Korean. Best, and only, chance of the game for Spurs.

CHANGES! Chelsea 1-0 Tottenham

Chelsea 1-0 Tottenham

46: And we're back!

Christian Romero can't come soon enough!

A Ziyech masterclass so far!

Darren Walsh/GettyImages

Ziyech's season?

Hakim Ziyech is loving life tonight. A wand of a left foot, quick feet and lots of energy. He drops into the number-ten position when Timo Werner and Kai Havertz slip into forward positions. There has been talk of him leaving London. Not on that evidence!

Tottenham look a long way off it!

Half-time: Chelsea 1-0 Tottenham

Half-time: Chelsea 1-0 Tottenham

Tottenham can take a little bit of solace in the fact that they didn't give Chelsea many clear opportunities. Other than that, it has been a very difficult day for the visitors.

Chelsea have been rampant. They have controlled the tempo of the entire game and home fans will feel that they could be more than a goal ahead. As noted, one issue was the lack of clear openings but they have been fantastic.

Chelsea 1-0 Tottenham

45: Alonso has a free-kick in a trademark Alonso position, but the left-wing-back's strike is straight into the wall. That action was the last of the half!

SAVE! Chelsea 1-0 Tottenham

44: Havertz moves into some space but his 25-yard effort is easily smothered by Gollini. The debutant keeper hasn't been forced into any spectacular saves but he has been kept on his toes.

Chelsea 1-0 Tottenham

43: Chalobah's floated ball over the top just misses the foot of Werner. The goalkeeper is stranded and he is in big trouble if Werner is just a little quicker to the pass.

Chelsea 1-0 Tottenham

41: Ziyech brushes past Tanganga but his cross is well gathered.

SAVE! Chelsea 1-0 Tottenham

40: Kante wins the ball high up and Werner wiggles into some room. His shot lacks power, however, and Gollini gets down to save.

Chelsea 1-0 Tottenham

37: Cries of shoot from the Chelsea fans, as the ball drops to Ziyech on the edge of the box. He can't find the angle, though, and Tottenham eventually clear.

Stunning goal!

Chelsea 1-0 Tottenham

34: It has been a good lesson for Nuno Espirito Santo. He has a chance to talk to his players after a collision in the middle of the pitch. Tough night so far!

Chelsea 1-0 Tottenham

32: Spurs simply trying to be organised. They can't seem to keep the ball for very long. A penny for Kane's thoughts!

Chelsea 1-0 Tottenham

29: Tottenham seem a bit shell-shocked. They have a strong team out but this is a step up from previous pre-season opposition. Chelsea are playing like they did at the end of last season: pressing, passing and penetrating.

HEADER! Chelsea 1-0 Tottenham

26: Rudiger rose to meet a Ziyech corner but couldn't hit the target. Decent ball. Decent chance.

Chelsea 1-0 Tottenham

26: The attack of Werner, Havertz and Ziyech have been seriously impressive so far. Lukaku who? Mason Mount? These guys on the pitch are doing a marvellous job!

OFFSIDE! Chelsea 1-0 Tottenham

23: Spurs very lucky! Kovacic played a great pass into Ziyech and he slipped Werner in behind. The linesman adjudged the striker to be offside but replays show that he was absolutely on! It should be 2-0 because Werner calmly finished the chance off. No VAR in action today!

BLOCK! Chelsea 1-0 Tottenham

20: Chelsea controlling the game so far. Werner found room on the edge of the box and Dier did well to block the shot. Ziyech followed up but he couldn't call the ball home this time. All Chelsea!

GOAL!!! ZIYECH WITH A CRACKER! (1-0)

16: Great goal from Chelsea. Kante makes a great tackle to stop Lucas Moura in the centre of the field. The Frenchman then releases Ziyech on the counter and the former Ajax man makes no mistake. Werner is to his right but Ziyech ignores him and rifles into the bottom corner from 25-yards. Great finish!

Chelsea 0-0 Tottenham

14: Alonso threads Havertz in behind the Spurs backline and the latter's dink to the back post threatens to cause panic. Ziyech is waiting but Dier is on hand to clear.

A bit of pre-match joy for Chelsea fans

Chelsea 0-0 Tottenham

11: Great pressing from Chelsea. Tottenham trying to play out and Tanganga's clearance is blocked out for a goal-kick by the chasing Ziyech.

WIDE! Chelsea 0-0 Tottenham

9: Kante wins back possession and finds Hudson-Odoi. The wing-back rolls the ball back to Ziyech but the Morocco international cannot get enough whip on the ball, sending it past the far post and into the stand.

Chelsea 0-0 Tottenham

7: Doherty getting forward well but lacking purchase in his final decision. At the other end, Regulion wasn't taking any prisoners with Hudson Odoi - bringing the trickster down.

SHOT! Chelsea 0-0 Tottenham

4: Spurs have started quietly but Son wriggled into some space and saw his shot deflected behind. Mendy had it covered.

Chelsea 0-0 Tottenham

3: Chelsea starting with a good purpose. Ziyech with a few early touches in advanced areas.

Chelsea 0-0 Tottenham

2: Kovacic looked to slip Werner in behind but Gollini was on hand to sweep up the danger and clear. Early touch on his debut!

Chelsea 0-0 Tottenham

1: And we're off!

A few minutes to go!

Looking forward to this one! It's come up next!

Pre-match thoughts

Two very well-stacked teams, as we expected. It should be a competitive match. Thomas Tuchel will hope that his 3-4-3 is able to cause a lot of problems for Nuno Espirito Santo's more mainstream 4-2-3-1.

The Chelsea players have the advantage of having seven months of Tuchel's mentorship and, therefore, they should have the advantage in this one.

15 minutes to kick-off

Excitement building for the London derby!

Belgian beast!

If Lukaku does end up at Chelsea then they become genuine title contenders. One criticism of the Tuchel era, thus far, has been a lack of attacking efficiency. Some have said they need create more; others have said that the attackers need to be more clinical.

Lukaku will add a penalty-area ruthlessness that is tough to rival. He will be far more potent than Werner and company.

Updates on Romelu Lukaku

No Tammy Abraham tonight

Tammy Abraham was expected to start tonight but there is Serie A interest in the forward. Atalanta are looking at the situation closely.

Zouma and Kounde deal on the cards?

Jules Kounde talk

Sevilla defender Jules Kounde has been heavily linked with a move to Stamford Bridge and Zouma could be used as a bargaining chip. Again, this is a good chance for Zouma to put himself back in the frame or onto the shop window.

Kurt Zouma chance to shine

Kurt Zouma was a regular under Frank Lampard but Thomas Tuchel has preferred other options. The German coach likes his central defenders to be solid on the ball and fast out from the back. Here is a chance for the Frenchman to stake his claim.

Eric Dier giving his thoughts!

Ings to Aston Villa gives hope to Son

Heung-min Son might be the man to carry the Kane can. Now that Ings has joined Aston Villa, it means that a potential striker target has passed by. Gabriel Jesus has also been linked, perhaps acting as a makeweight in a Manchester City deal for Kane.

Danny Ings slips through clutches of Chelsea and Tottenham

Danny Ings has been linked with Chelsea of late. Many also touted him as a possible Harry Kane replacement. A shrewd acquisition from Aston Villa and it came out of nowhere!

BREAKING NEWS: Danny Ings joins Aston Villa

German power!

As noted, Werner and Havertz will be in a three pronged attack. Hakim Ziyech will look to drop off and provide creation.

Callum Hudson-Odoi and Marcos Alonso will look to utilise the wing-back roles to their full potential. Both will hope to get into advanced positions. One will be whipping in crosses while the other will try and create a back-post overload.

Team news inbound...

The team news should be rolling out in approximately 10 minutes!

Emphasis on Chelsea and Tottenham attack

Timo Werner and Kai Havertz are going to be out to prove a point. Werner, in particular, who was rather wasteful during his first season in the Premier League.

In the other camp, Heung-min Son will be hoping to convince in the striker role. The South Korean has been deployed as the forward in the absence of Harry Kane

Harry Kane could be on his way out of Tottenham...

Bryan Gil first up

Bryan Gil joined Tottenham from Sevilla in June, but he won't be quite ready for action just yet, either. VAVEL looked at what to expect from the Spaniard.

Tottenham: Christian Romero inbound

Spurs have sealed the deal for Christian Romero of Atalanta for a fee of just over £40-million. A shrewd acquisition for one of the best central defenders in Serie A. He will not be in contention for this game but Romero will make a huge difference to a fragile Tottenham defence.

Prediction

It's a match between two closely matches opponents.

Neither team will be at full strength but there is more than enough first-team quality on display.

Nuno will want to start implementing a style onto his players and this represents a great test for his men. The toughest match of their pre-season by some margin. How will Spurs cope without Kane? This could be a more accurate early indicator than previous matches.

By contrast, Tuchel will be looking to see if Timo Werner and Kai Havertz can carry the can in attack. With Lukaku and Haaland links, it's up to the German duo to prove that they are worth their combined £140-million in transfer fees.

Chelsea are further down the line with Tuchel than Tottenham are with Nuno so, with that in mind, I'm predicting them to overturn this Spurs team.

Prediction: Chelsea 2-0 Tottenham

Tottenham: Will Harry Kane stay?

Harry Kane is contracted to Spurs until 2024 but he is clearly eager to flee. His absence from training is enraging many Tottenham supporters. It is believed that the 28-year-old had a gentleman's agreement with Daniel Levy but the chairman doesn't want to lose his key man.

Romelu Lukaku Chelsea bound?

Chelsea: Romelu Lukaku or Erling Haaland?

Chelsea haven't managed to land a big-name striker signing, as of yet, but they have been linked with a move for Erling Haaland and Romelu Lukaku.

One imagines that they will start the season without a big-hitter but Fabrizio Romano suggests that talks are heating up in their pursuit of Lukaku.

Previous Meetings

Chelsea won the last clash between these teams at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, courtesy of a Jorginho penalty (0-1).

The reverse leg at Stamford Bridge finished in a stalemate.

Key Player: Dele Alli (Tottenham)

Spurs midfielder Dele Alli has had a small renaissance during this pre-season campaign; he has two goals in his last two matches. Alli had been frozen out under Jose Mourinho but he was given more minutes under interim coach Ryan Mason

Key Player: Tammy Abraham (Chelsea)

Abraham has been cast aside since Frank Lampard's departure from the Chelsea hot-seat. However, the striker did score the winner against Arsenal at the weekend.

He isn't expected to force his way back into Tuchel's thinking but these are good opportunities for Abraham to put himself on the shop window.

Probable Tottenham line-up

Tottenham's new signings will not be involved just yet, giving an opportunity to players on the fringe and other young stars.

Heung-min Son should lead the line, though, fresh off the back of signing his new contract. The South Korean should be joined by other first-team stars but the likes of Pierre Emile-Hojbjerg and Giovanni Lo Celso are still a little short of fitness, despite returning to training.

Possible XI: Gollini; Doherty, Tanganga, Dier, Reguilon; Winks, Ndombele; Lucas, Alli, Bergwijn; Son.

Probable Chelsea line-up

Thomas Tuchel will be welcoming back the Euro 2020 finalists this week. JorginhoMason MountBen Chilwell and Emerson Palimieri are all back in training but they are unlikely to feature in this clash.

Jake Clarke-Salter, Dujon Sterling and Malang Sarr could get more opportunity to impress.

Cesar Azpilicueta and Marcos Alonso are also in contention for staring births.

Possible XI: Kepa; Zouma, Sarr, Rudiger; Hudson-Odoi, Kante, Barkley, Pulisic; Ziyech, Werner; Abraham.

Tottenham: Wins against Colchester United and MK Dons

Nuno Espirito Santo has an enormous job on his hands but the Portuguese manager will be happy with recent performances.

A 3-0 victory over Colchester United was followed up by an equally resounding 3-1 win at MK Dons. The two teams are a part of the EFL but it's worth remembering that clubs in the football league are generally ahead in their preparation.

Chelsea: Win against Arsenal

Chelsea won their first match of the Mind Series with a 2-1 win over Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium. Tammy Abraham scored a late winner after goals from Kai Havertz and Granit Xhaka

The game was tinged with controversy, however, when Joe Willock thought he had rattled in a late equaliser. The midfielder's shot bounced over the line but the officials waved play on. A rare absence of VAR proved to be costly!

The match will be played at Stamford Bridge

The match will be played at Stamford Bridge in London. The stadium's capacity is 41,837. It will be a good opportunity for Chelsea fans to get down to their beloved stadium and support their boys in blue!

By equal measure, it will be a good chance for Tottenham fans to take their mind off the unpleasant Harry Kane saga.

What is The Mind Series?

The Mind Series is a tournament that is designed to highlight the importance of taking mental health seriously. Chelsea, Tottenham and Arsenal are all getting involved.

Funds raised from the football matches will go towards Mind and relevant mental health and wellbeing charities.
