Wembley has played host some incredible moments: last minute drama, underdog cup wins and moments of national pride. In 2023, the iconic stadium will turn 100 years old.

Wembley originally opened its doors on April 28th, 1923. As part of the centenary celebrations, fans are being encouraged to join in the fun by submitting their most memorable moments of the iconic ground.

Everyone that submits their favourite Wembley memory, will automatically be entered into a draw to win three VIP tickets to a Wembley event of their choosing between April 1st and December 31st.

Stadium director, Liam Boylan, has said:

"Wembley holds a space in people’s hearts for many different reasons. It is the place where heroes perform and idols are worshipped.

“It is also about those special, personal moments too. Seeing your side win or lose, a child’s first game."

History

Of course, while many recognise Wembley for footballing reasons, the stadium has played host to far more than just that.

Perhaps it's biggest moment in non-footballing history was the hosting of the Live Aid concert in 1985, broadcast to over one billion people.

Since then many musical greats have graced the stage at Wembley. Beyonce, Ed Sheeran and Elton John are amongst those to have played in recent times.

However, Wembley will always be synonymous with sport. From Greyhound racing to the Olympics, Speedway to Gaelic Football, Wembley has seen it all.

The stadium itself has undergone radical changes, with the original stadium closing in 2001 to make way for a new, more modern, structure.

After six years of construction, Wembley reopened for the 2007 FA cup final, the iconic twin towers of the previous stadium swapped for a now iconic 315m arch over the stadium.

While there has been devolution in where England play their football matches in more recent times, Wembley also remains the home of the England national team.

It is the site on which Bobby Moore's side lifted the 1966 World Cup trophy and where Chloe Kelly won the Euros for England's women's side in 2022.
