Doncaster Belles have confirmed that defender Lauren Cresswell has rejoined the club.

A set piece specialist, Cresswell was a regular in the Doncaster back four in 2013, alongside skipper Leandra Little and Wales international Rhiannon Roberts.

Cresswell told the club's official website that she is happy to be back and is looking forward to "training with all the girls".

She said that when she got the call to rejoin the Belles, it was a "no brainer." She also said she was "looking forward with the new management and the players."

Cresswell confirmed her aim to secure a starting 11 spot and also said she wanted to "enjoy" her football again. She hopes the Belles will "kick-on as a team" and hopes to "gain as many points as possible in the second half of the season."

New boss delighted

New manager Emma Coates was delighted to have Cresswell back at the club, saying that she would fit "straight in with the group and gives us more depth". Coates, who was only announced as the Belles' new boss this morning, also said that it was an "easy decision" to resign her.

The Belles have undergone major transformations in the dugout and behind the scenes, with Coates replacing the outgoing Glen Harris and joining an all-female boardroom.

The club haven't had an ideal start to life in the top flight and sit at the bottom of the league table after three games. Their results consist of big losses to Chelsea and Manchester City, as well as a narrow 2-1 defeat to Birmingham City.

The loss to Man City was the one that Doncaster headed into the mid-season break off the back of, with Harris' dismissal perhaps not a huge surprise given that was a 6-0 thrashing.

Coates, his replacement, will take charge of her first game at Meadow Lane where Doncaster Belles travel to take on Notts County.
