Liverpool continued their 100% start to their Premier League title defence in style on Sunday evening as they breezed past Chelsea to a rather comfortable 2-0 win.

On top during the first half but without a goal to show for it, Jurgen Klopp's side were handed a fortunate advantage for the last 45 minutes when Chelsea defender Andreas Christensen was shown red for a rugby-like challenge on Sadio Mane just before the half-time whistle.

The Reds took full advantage and routinely dismantled a 10-man Chelsea side in the second half with Mane scoring two goals in four minutes of play, albeit with a bit of help from The Blues' 'keeper Kepa Arrizabalaga.

A lot of people had suggested Liverpool may drop off this season after a lacklustre end to the last campaign, but that opinion looks to have already been proven wrong as the Reds defeated one of their biggest title rivals for this season.

Here is the Warm Down from Liverpool's 2-0 win against Chelsea FC.

A tale of two 'keepers.

One keeper made an epic blunder to give away a vital goal, whilst the other saved a penalty to guarantee victory for his side. These two moments were critical in the outcome of Sunday evening's clash and goes to show how important it is to invest in your last line of defence.

The current Chelsea side is very similar to the Liverpool side of 2017/18. A terrifying attack made up of some of the biggest talents in the world, but a not-so convincing defence with an under-performing goalkeeper between the sticks.

At fault for the second goal and potentially at blame for the Christensen red card - the mistakes made by Kepa in this affair may have been the last straw for Blues boss Frank Lampard. Chelsea are closing in on a new goalkeeper in Edouard Mendy, who could potentially be the final piece of the puzzle if the transfer can work out as well as it did for Liverpool, when they brought in Alisson Becker in 2018.

Liverpool's Brazillian shot-stopper has played a vital role in the Reds winning both the Champions League and Premier League since his arrival, and he proved his worth once again as he saved Jorghino's penalty at a vital moment to keep the score at 2-0.

When you look at the errors made from Kepa and the heroics from Alisson, it really goes to show the difference between a good team, and a great team.

Record-breaker Thiago

After being officially announced as a Liverpool player two days before the game, it was quite surprising to see Klopp throw a player into his system with such little time to gel with the rest of the squad - but Thiago Alcántara took the game by the scruff of the neck was the composer in midfield for the Reds in the second half.

After months of speculation, the Spanish midfielder was finally announced as a Liverpool player and was thrown straight into the deep end as he made his way on at half-time for Jordan Henderson.

The 29-year-old midfielder's debut was highly anticipated by Liverpool fans everywhere, and to sum it up, he bossed it.

According to Opta, Thiago completed 75 passes in 45 minutes, which was more passes than any Chelsea player managed in the entire 90. Since Opta Stats began in 2003, he completed the most passes by a player who played a maximum of 45 minutes.

As predicted, he slotted into a deeper midfield role and dictated the game, spraying passes left and right as well as making some killer forward passes to move the Reds forward. A part of Thiago's game that's slightly more unnoticed is how he plays off the ball. It was tiring to just watch how intense his workrate was when not in possession.

He isn't scared of making a challenge which resulted in him giving away a penalty - however, all is forgiven after Alisson's save to deny any embarrassment for the Spaniard.

All in all, it was a very positive start in the red strip for Thiago, and Liverpool fans can be excited for what's to come.

Slim defence saved by Fabinho

With neither Joe Gomez and Joel Matip named on Klopp's teamsheet for the Chelsea game, the German manager was forced into starting Fabinho as a makeshift centre-back alongside Virgil Van Dijk

You would've been excused for being slightly worried ahead of kick-off with the thought of Timo Werner coming up against Fabinho as a defender, however the Brazillian held his own and produced a Man of the Match display, once again showing his versatility for the Reds.

The rapid Werner was sent through one-on-one against Fabinho a couple of times in the opening 20 minutes but couldn't find a way past Fabinho who did exceptionally well to deny any sort of chance for the German forward.

The performance from the 26-year-old evidently proved that Liverpool could cope with only three natural centre-backs in the squad, but with the injury record of both Gomez and Matip, it would be a risk to not bring in anymore defensive cover.
