Plymouth Argyle host Burton Albion as Ryan Lowe's men look to overturn the recent bad run of form which has seen them only pick up one win in all competitions so far this season.

It's a similar story for Jake Buxton and Burton as they have only picked up one win in their first four league games this term and find themselves in the relegation zone.

Lowe will have numerous players fresh for Saturday after resting them for the midweek trip to Cheltenham Town as well as the return on Luke Jephcott who has recovered from a thigh injury.

Lewis Macleod may also be in contention for the Pilgrims after he missed the trip to Hull City with a bruised knee and also Luke McCormick who has been out with a shoulder injury.

Burton will be without the important Lucas Akins who has been struggling with an ankle injury. Ben Fox is also likely to miss out as he awaits his COVID-19 test results while Charles Vernam is sidelined with a knee injury.

The first player to look out for is Conor Grant in the middle of midfield for Plymouth, the former Everton youth graduate has been pulling the strings in midfield and has even chipped in with a few goals in his four appearances this season.

On the other side is Joe Powell, the 21-year-old has been a catalyst for for Burton in all the good things they have done this season and the Brewers will be looking to the midfielder to help push them towards a win in Devon.

  • Previous meeting

These two sides last met in December 2018 where they played out a draw at the Pirelli Stadium.

The Brewers opened the scoring through Will Miller, the forward's only goal in his short stay in the Midlands.

Plymouth equalised through winger Ruben Lameiras in the second half and this would be the end of the scoring as neither side could find a winner.

Lowe is keen for his side to be wary of Burton who have been "wounded" over the last few weeks.

We feel we have been in every game and we possibly could be on seven points, or nine points. They (Burton) will probably feel the same" Lowe told Plymouth Herald.

“I feel they are going to be a wounded animal. They are going to come here firing on all cylinders.

“But we are a little bit wounded as well. We feel we should have got a point at Hull.

“We have got to respect them, we will not fear them, we will go toe-to-toe with them and we have got to make sure we put on a performance and worry about what we do.”

Burton have conceded 12 goals in their last three games and Buxton will be hoping his side can halt the leaking of goals.

“It is important for the group and we know it’s set plays that have been hurting us.

“We have concentrated in training on heading and corners, getting your body between the goal and the ball and making sure you head it when it comes into the box and having the desire to make that first contact on set plays. We must stop letting the opposition back into the game with set plays against us" Buxton told the Burton website.

“With personnel coming back who have done that job throughout their careers and have understood it, I hope the mistakes will stop.

“We have two important away games coming up at Plymouth and Bristol Rovers and a clean sheet mentality, a gang mentality of sticking together and working hard for the team, being hard to beat is important.”
