Ivory Coast progressed to the semi-finals of the Africa Cup of Nations after a brace from Wilfred Bony and a 90 minute goal from Gervinho sent the Elephants through to the last 4.

The first chance of the game to Algeria in the 10th minute after Gbohouo got tangled with Kanon inside his penalty box, which led to Soudani volleying the ball towards goal but the Ivorian keeper was well alerted and made a comfortable save. Mahrez then came close to breaking the deadlock in the 19th minute when the ball felt perfectly to the Leicester City winger but his volley blazed over the bar. Ivory Coast almost took the lead when an unmarked Serge Aurier headed the ball towards goal but his header crashed of the inside of the post and the ricochet was cleared by Medjani, however two minutes later in the 25th minute Bony gave the Elephants the lead after a brilliant cross from Max Gradel on the edge of the box found the new Manchester City striker unmarked and a yard onside inside the penalty box, and Bony headed past M’Boli to give Ivory Coast the lead. Bony had another chance five minutes from time when the former Swansea striker fired a 25-yard shot wide of goal, Taider then had a long range effort of his own but this time it managed to force a save from the keeper.

Gbohouo pulled off two brilliant saves in the 85th minute but the keeper went down looking like had injured his shoulder but the Ivorian didn’t know what part of his body was injured as he reached for his shoulder one minute and his head the next, a pathetic way of time wasting. Gervinho nicked the ball off Bentaleb on the halfway line in the 88th minute, the Roman winger looked set to score a third goal for the Ivory Coast but the referee called the play back as he thought Gervinho fouled Bentaleb, however Gervinho paid for his mistake as in the third minute of extra time he got his goal after the Ivory Coast broke through on goal as Tallo laid the ball off to an open Gervinho who coolly finished
