South Korea advance to the round of 16 after a superb second half saw them come back from behind in a 2-1 win over Spain.

In a very one-sided first half, there looked to be only one winner as Spain dominated possession for the full 45 and they took a well-deserved lead through captain Boquete, in the 2015 Women's World Cup.

But with Spain converting just one of their eight attempts on goal in the first half, their lack of conviction was again to blame as South Korea fought back to grab all 3 points.

Late drama saw Spain hit the cross bar with the last kick of the game but two goals from Cho S.H and Kim Sooyun proved to be the difference between the sides.

Spain start the brighter

As expected it was Spain that started the game the brightest and they settled into the game fast.

The first chance was created with just two minutes on the clock when Natalia met a cross with her back to goal. The Arsenal striker turned and shot on the half volley but her effort found the wrong side of the post.

Boquete was the next to try her luck after another brilliant build up from the Spanish, but failure to make clean contact with the ball saw the captain’s shot scuffed, much to the delight of a very busy South Korea defence.

As the first half wore on, Spain’s confidence grew and South Korea were forced into scrappy defending as they battled to stay in the game.

Spain finally opened the scoring on 29 minutes through their captain as she fired home for a well-deserved lead. Boquete met a perfectly placed cross from Corredera who had weaved in and out of players before delivering from the left flank.

Natalia looked as though she would double Spain’s lead moments later as she found herself unmarked in the box, but her lash at the ball was straight at Kim J.M.

Half Time: South Korea 0-1 Spain

Despite only leading by the one goal going into the second half, Spain took an unusual relaxed approach, which was quickly punished.

An equaliser came for South Korea from their first chance of the half, as captain Cho S.H rose above her defender to slot away a very well taken header. Kang Y.M with the delivery gave the South Korean captain very little to do and suddenly the battle for a round of 16 spot was back on.
