Gillingham defender Lee Hodson has joined Scottish Premiership side Hamilton Academical on a season long loan deal.
The 28-year-old, who joined the Gills last summer, was told at the start of the off season he is surplus to requirements, and has now moved on.
Gillingham career
Hodson joined Gillingham in the summer of 2019 after leaving Rangers but made just 12 appearances for the Kent side before leaving to join St. Mirren on loan.
He stayed in Scotland for the duration of the season, but headed back to Priestfield in the off season to get ready for training.
He was, though, made surplus to requirements early on by Gills boss Steve Evans, and now leaves the club on a season long loan. With his contract at Gillingham up at the end of the upcoming season, it’s unlikely he’ll be seen in a blue shirt again.
Stats
Born in Borehamwood, Hodson played in the youth ranks for his boyhood club before joining Watford’s academy in 2004.
He made his professional debut for the Hornets in 2009, and went onto play for Brentford, MK Dons, Kilmarnock, Rangers and St. Mirren before signing for Gillingham.
He moved back on loan to St. Mirren last season, and, despite talks with the Scottish team, now signs for Hamilton on loan.
Reaction
Gillingham wrote on their official website: “Everyone at Gillingham FC wishes Lee the very best of luck for the season ahead.”
Hodson himself then tweeted: “Delighted to have signed on loan Hamilton. Thanks for all the messages - can’t wait to get started.”
