Pep Guardiola, was happy with his side's performance, after guiding the club to their 13th win of the campaign: “I’m very pleased. Freiburg did very well defensively today, but we were excellent in attack. We had 13 clear-cut chances and their keeper made some very good saves. Great credit to my players, and now we need to take the final step in Mainz.”

Left-back Juan Bernat, who hit the woodwork twice in the match, is desperate to get his first goal for the club: “They were very solid and compact and didn’t give us much space but I think we played well and the most important thing was to get the points. It’s always nice to score so it would have been good if it had happened today. Hopefully I will score soon, I really want to! I was happy to help the team in setting up Thomas Müller’s goal. It was our second one so after that things were a lot easier. I’m very satisfied with the season so far, I’ve played in practically all of our games and I’m very happy about that and will try to keep integrating myself into the team as best I can."

Thomas Müller was his usual eccentric self in the mixed zone: “Freiburg set themselves up so that we would have a lot of possession. They played a 5-4-1 formation so they weren’t going to attack us but were always going to wait at the back. When you do that of course there’s going to be a lot of shots and crosses but Freiburg were banking on their keeper doing well and maybe hoping we’d have a bit of bad luck. We played pretty well overall. It’s never easy against an opponent with so many players in the penalty area, but we won 2-0 so can be happy. On a scale of one to ten, the kick I got when scoring my goal hurt about 1.5.”

Manuel Neuer, broke the record for least goals conceded at this stage in the season after only conceding three so far, but the German international sees it as a team effort: “It’ll be important to win in Mainz as it’s our last game before Christmas. We’ve invested a lot of energy in the last few weeks and months so we really have to win it. I don’t really think about how many goals I’m going to concede, we really just do take it game by game. In the first half of the season I think we’ve played really well and been very successful."

Meanwhile in the SCF camp, head coach Christian Streich was satisfied with his team's attempt and praised the victors: “We started well enough. We tried to keep it nice and tight and we generally did that very well. But we couldn’t keep out everything they threw at us. The way my team stood up to Bayern’s utter superiority was good. Huge, huge credit to Pep for the work he’s doing here.”

Former Fulham full-back Sascha Riether was equally honest about what they could expect from coming to the home of the champions-elect: “We knew Bayern would have more possession and that we’d only be defending. We had one or two chances and maybe with a bit of luck we could have scored. I’ve played against Manchester City myself and they’re a team that almost always have possession in the Premier League. I watched Bayern’s match away to Man City and even with ten men on the pitch they still had something like 80 per cent possession. So what can you expect when little old SC Freiburg come to town? I think we gave a good account of ourselves today and a lot of teams would like to come away from here having only lost 2-0.”

Roman Bürki, was the hero for Die Breisgau, pulling off a number of great saves to keep the score modest: “I felt good over the 90 minutes and I was happy to help the team and keep them down to two goals. Overall I think we defended very well. Plenty of other teams have gone home with a lot heavier defeats. I knew what to expect before the game but I tried to prepare myself in the same way as I do before every game. Obviously then when you’re lining up next to Manuel Neuer, Franck Ribery and all the rest of them it’s certainly something special. It was a lot of fun playing here.”
