Hertha BSC defender Sebastian Langkamp has committed his long-term future with the capital club. The 27-year-old signed a four year contract extension, keeping him at the club until June 2019.

A good move for all parties

Speaking on his extension, Langkamp said: “I feel good here, the fans are second to none. In the next few years we want to achieve something.”

The no-nonsense defender has played every minute of every Hertha game this season, winning six aerial duels. Langkamp is looking to achieve and stabilse the team at Hertha as the Berlin-based side fell victim to poor decisions and poor form last season, which saw them in the mire coming into the business end of the Bundesliga season.

The contract extension will come as a boost to the Hertha players as they have won one out of their opening three matches, picking up four points in the process.

Last weekend, Pal Dardai’s side were unlucky in the sense that they came up against a devastating Borussia Dortmund. Although the game was close, the score-line suggests otherwise as Adrian Ramos' strike two minutes from time sealed all three points after Dortmund countered their heavy pressure.

Preetz happy to get the deal done

Michael Preetz spoke of his delight at the defender putting pen to paper on a new deal, “Sebastian Langkamp is one of our defensive regulars and always is a top performer.”

The 27-year-old joined Hertha BSC in 2013 and has since made 45 appearances in the Bundesliga, scoring just one goal. Prior to his time at the Olympiastadion, he had two year spells at FC Augsburg and Karlsruher SC.

The 6 ft 3’ defender also had spells at Bayern Munich, Hamburger SV and Karlsruhe's second teams, spending a total of three years at the clubs. Langkamp is yet to make an appearance for the German national team competing but he has, however, played for the German U18s and the German U21’s.
