Having already strengthened across the park this summer, SpVgg Greuther Fürth have now added a new striker, with Serdar Dursun joining the club after a successful trial.

The 24-year-old joins from Faith Karagümrük S.K. on a free transfer. He has signed a one-year contract, with the option of an additional year.

He is the eighth signing made by Stefan Ruthenbeck’s men this summer, all of which have been for free.

Experience in Turkish lower leagues

Dursun, who is of Turkish descent, was born in Hamburg, and came through the system at Hannover 96, scoring five goals for their second team but never appearing for the first team.

He joined Turkish club Eskisehirspor in 2011, but only made two appearances for them. He was subsequently loaned out to Sanliurfaspor and Denizlispor in the second tier 1.Lig, scoring only twice for the latter, before joining Karagümrük in 2014.

Now playing in the 2.Lig, the third tier of Turkish football, he impressed for the club based in Istanbul, scoring 16 goals over the course of two seasons, making 59 appearances.

Difficult to defend against

He is now back in the country of his birth, and over the past week he has appeared in three matches for Fürth, facing Caykur Rizespor, Akhisar Belediyespor and VfB Stuttgart, without scoring a goal.

However, director of football Ramazan Yildirim said that Dursun had given everything in his trial and that “he has left a good impression on us and brings new qualities to our squad.”

Ruthenbeck describes him as a “goal threat” who is “uncomfortable for the opposition to defend.” He added that is delighted to have signed him.

The Shamrocks have been busy over the summer, with eight new signings, but they will go into the new season with Dursun as the only new forward. Johannes Wurtz, who has joined VfL Bochum, is the only departure in that department, but two league goals in as many seasons means he is unlikely to be a great loss.
