Emre Can and Ragnar Klavan have both been ruled out of Liverpool's encounter with Leicester City at Anfield on Saturday evening by manager Jürgen Klopp.

Midfielder Can was forced to drop out of Germany duty in the recent international break due to an ankle injury, having sustained a similar issue at the back-end of last season.

The 22-year-old is nearing a return to training having received treatment at Melwood over the past week, but won't play any part against the Premier League champions in the Reds' first home game of the season.

Neither will Klavan after the centre-back aggravated a knee injury while captaining Estonia in their heavy World Cup qualifying defeat to Bosnia-Herzegovina earlier this week.

The 30-year-old missed the first game of the break, a friendly with Malta, after also missing the Liverpool's draw at Tottenham Hotspur prior with a knee problem.

He was given the green light to return against Bosnia, but managed only to worsen the problem despite lasting the full 90 minutes - with Klopp as yet giving no time frame as to when he will be back.

Klopp insists Can will "not be ready" for Leicester

The manager confirmed that winger Sadio Mane would be available, saying that his knock was "absolutely nothing" and that he has "trained normally" since returning to Merseyside from Senegal.

But Klopp explained that Can's situation is "different" and, having made just one start this season, has "suffered a little issue with his ankle" picked up against Burton Albion in the EFL Cup last month.

Klopp declared that the German is "much better" now but because he "didn't have a perfect pre-season" and has "had another two-and-a-half weeks out" will not be "ready" for Leicester, though he "should be back in team training" before the game.

The Reds boss also told reporters in his pre-match press conference that Klavan is "another player with a problem" because he has got a "bone bruise" and "a rip around his knee."

He explained that the problem is "not too deep" and doesn't "need stitches" but that it is "painful" for the defender and the club won't know more until "later."

"[Sheyi] Ojo isn't in team training until now," added Klopp, who insisted that Liverpool have "enough players available" to field "a good team."

"I hope everyone wants to play and then we will make a few decisions," he concluded.
