Matej Vydra has been nominated for the Premier League's Budweiser Goal of the Season.

The Czech international hasn't found the net too often for Burnley but his stunning goal against Southampton could be met with an award.

Vydra had been starved of minutes under Sean Dyche but made his return to the fold count. After bringing down Hendrick's floated pass, the £11-million man shimmed past Jack Stephens and Kyle Walker-Peters before slamming the ball Alex McCarthy

His effort goes toe-to-toe with the Premier League's best goals from the 2019-20 season. Taken from the Official Burnley website, the competing strikes are listed below:

Harvey Barnes (Leicester City) v Sheffield United, 24/8/19
Moussa Djenepo (Southampton) v Sheffield United 14/9/19
Matty Longstaff (Newcastle United) v Manchester United, 06/10/19
Kevin De Bruyne (Manhester City) v Newcastle United, 30/11
Son Heung-min (Tottenham Hostpur) v Burnley, 7/12/19
Alireza Jahanbaksh (Brighton & Hove Albion) v Chelsea, 01/01/20
Bruno Fernandes (Manchester United) v Brighton & Hove Albion, 30/06/20
Kevin De Bruyne (Manchester City) v Norwich City, 26/07/20

But how does his goal rank alongside strikes from his Burnley team-mates?

Five of the best

Ashley Barnes v Wolverhampton Wanderers (Away, 25/08/19)

Barnes started the season strongly, netting in Burnley's first two Premier League matches, but this was the best of his early season goals.

He controlled Dwight McNeil's flicked header on his chest before arrowing the bouncing ball into the bottom corner from 25-yards.

The goal was reminiscent of Steven Gerrard's excellent strike against Manchester City at the Etihad in the 2012-13 season.

Jeff Hendrick v Brighton (Away, 14/09/19)

A lovely team goal by the Clarets as they sought a late equaliser at the AMEX.

James Tarkowski started with the ball at the back before feeding the ball into midfield. He found Westwood who quickly passed to Hendrick.

The Irishman turned, played the ball to McNeil, and started to make the spare-man run. McNeil carried the ball forward and passed the ball through to Vydra who flicked the ball back with his heel. Hendrick came onto the loose ball and struck a wonderful first-time drive past Mat Ryan.

Fluid football!

Jay Rodriguez v Chelsea (Home, 26/10/19)

The Clarets were 4-0 down against Frank Lampard's men but Rodriguez managed to generate some cheers from the home faithful.

With very little to lose, the striker unleashed a howitzer from 35-yards that flew the diving Kepa Arrizabalaga. It was a long way out but the shot had a lot of movement and too much pace for the Spanish stopper.

Jay Rodriguez v Manchester United (Away, 22/01/20)

A sensational strike to round off a stunning result.

It was neat build-up from Burnley with Chris Wood flicking the ball into the path of Rodriguez. The former West Bromwich Albion man took a touch to escape the attentions of Harry Maguire before rifling a left-footed rocket past David de Gea at his near post.

Jay Rodriguez v Liverpool (Away, 11/07/20)

Rodriguez is certainly the man who seems to score the best goals! This was a big goal as well, denying Liverpool the chance to win every Premier League game at Anfield in the 2019-20 season.

Tarkowski nodded down a long punted free-kick and Rodriguez swiveled before fizzing a low first-time drive across Alisson Becker from just inside the box.

Special Mention

Erik Pieters scored two fantastic goals in the FA Cup.

A low-drilled 30-yard strike against Peterborough United was a pleasant surprise in the Third Round of the competition.

In the next round, Pieters connected perfectly with a loose ball on the edge of the box against Norwich City. He cut across the ball and sent it spinning out of Tim Krul's reach.

Unfortunately, the article was looking at Burnley's best Premier League goals of the most recent campaign. Nonetheless, those two strikes deserve their recognition.
