JJ McKiernan's first half header was enough to claim Eastleigh all three points at the LNER Community Stadium, taking them into 9th place.

The Minstermen however, record their second loss of the season, and today's lacklustre performance leaves them in 14th.

In front of a home crowd for the second time this season, York City provided an unchanged side from their midweek draw at Solihull.

Journeymen Eastleigh put out a lineup with one change made from their stalemate with Dagenham, as captain Aaron Martin returned, whilst George Langston was withdrawn from the eleven.

York started well, Maziar Kouhyar's delivery into the box found Mitch Hancox, but he hadn't really got into the groove of it after just a minute, the free header looping over the bar.

The Spitfires proved an early threat to their hosts, as a corner soon caused problems, but the goal mouth scramble was eventually cleared.

Within the first quarter of an hour, it was only half-chances that could be conjured up by either side - Eastleigh were the better of the two sides though, giving the City defence an indication of what might be yet to come.

The Minstermen had ideas of their own, and after Olly Dyson's pacey run forward, he concluded by letting rip from distance, and watched his shot fly narrowly past the post.

Three minutes short of the half time interval, Ethan Ross made a vital save to deny the visitors from close range, but the resulting corner was headed home coolly by JJ McKiernan, who went on to taunt the home fans with his celebration.

Midway into added time at the end of the half, a man in burgundy similarly found the back of the net with a header, but there was adjudged to have been a foul on the 'keeper, chalking off the 'equalizer'.

After returning to the arena, the hosts came out and attacked, firstly a header from Dyson going wide, before substitute Scott Boden connected with a well-worked cross, but Joe McDonnell claimed easily.

Eastleigh managed to see out the majority of the second half, through an amount of time-wasting and playing keep-ball, and rarely gave The Minstermen any sniff of a goal.

They were close to doubling their lead with less than 12 minutes left on the clock - Callum Ebanks struck from a tight angle but Ross was unbeatable at his near post, blocking and clearing for a corner, which came to nothing.

Deep into injury time, City were awarded a rare chance, from a corner kick. Kouhyar's delivery found Ryan Fallowfield at the back post, and without a marker, many expected the net to ripple, but instead the golden opportunity came to be another effort that ended up wide of goal, sending Eastleigh home with maximum points.
