Phoenix club Bury AFC could be making the back-page headlines once again, if they manage to continue a magical journey in the Emirates FA Cup, and overcome a strong York City side.

The Shakers have already played eight times in the cup so far, due to their Step 5 non-league status, most recently forcing a replay against Clitheroe, which Bury consequently won by a comfortable two-goal advantage.

In contrast, this is where the 'road to Wembley' begins for York, who are set to play their first FA Cup game under John Askey, with 7th place in the National League enacting them as clear favourites on paper.

City haven't made it past the First Round since the 2010/11 season, so that will act as an extra incentive to win on Saturday, as well as a chance to extend an unbeaten streak in all competitions, to three games.

  • Team News

Bury AFC

Club captain Jonathan Hunt may step into the void if deemed fit following an injury he picked up at Kendal Town.

Also, centre-back Joe Denman will be sorely missed after being shown a red card last Saturday against Avro.

York City

Full-back pair Adam Crookes and Michael Duckworth may be slowly recovering from respective injuries suffered towards the beginning of the season, though it's probably some time yet before they are back to full fitness.

Defender Fraser Kerr picked up an injury a couple of games ago, and following Tuesday's draw with Dagenham & Redbridge, where he didn't feature at all, manager John Askey reported that Kerr was 'nowhere near' making the team, however despite a groin injury, it is expected he will be back for the FA Cup opener.

Also given the nature of Askey's pre-Bury comments, it might be the perfect opportunity to give a few players a rest ahead of a busy league schedule.

  • Likely Lineups

Bury AFC

Atkinson, Williams, Kenny, Rowney, Moore, Tinning, Gilboy, Smith, Wharton, Brazel, Comber

York City

Ross, Fallowfield, Kouogun, Mafuta, Sanders, Whittle, Hancox, Dyson, Thomas, John-Lewis, Hurst

  • Key Players

Lewis Gilboy

The tricky winger left Football League club Accrington Stanley a few games into the 2020/21 season, to join Bury AFC, where he has remained since.

Gilboy has seen some exceptional stats down in non-league, with 35 goal involvements across all 82 of his appearances. This season, the Shaker has played almost every game and already boasts 11 goals, four of those coming in the FA Cup.

Nathan Thomas

Signing for The Minstermen just over a week ago, Thomas made a great first impression when he came on late on in the recent fixture against Dagenham, only to set up the equalizer for York.

The winger showed his quality and pace, giving City fans a glimpse of what is yet to come, and he may just have earnt himself a place in Saturday's starting lineup, following his cameo appearance.

Where is the game being played?

Bury's famous unused stadium Gigg Lane will not be used for this fixture, with the usual home ground for the past few seasons, the Neuven Stadium (Stainton Park) acting as the venue.

The Neuven Stadium, is in fact the home of Radcliffe Borough, however Bury AFC are currently ground sharing.

What time is kickoff?

As with the majority of the FA Cup Fourth Round Qualifying fixtures, this game will kickoff at 3pm.

The only exceptions are the BBC's chosen match for TV coverage - Anstey Nomads vs Chesterfield (12:30pm), and due to their Hollywood-famous owners, Wrexham's trip to Blyth Spartans will be streamed by ESPN, with a kickoff time of 1pm.

How can I watch?

There will be no stream of this game, and with a sell-out on the horizon, it's unlikely you will be able to get a ticket at this stage.

Live commentary will be provided by BBC Radio York, whilst both clubs and Jorvik Radio will tweet live updates throughout.
