A frustrating evening for Bristol City left them empty handed as Sheffield United took the three points back up north.

After having the majority of the possession, The Robins failed to impress in front of goal and were caught out during a brief lapse of concentration from the defence when Iliman Ndiaye nodded past Max O'Leary.

City were booed off the pitch after the final whistle and are now winless in three matches after a promising first few games of the season.

Nigel Pearson's side sit 14th in the table, whilst The Blades are third, just a point away from the automatic promotion spots with a game in hand.

  • Bristol City

Max O'Leary - 6/10

The City keeper didn't have much to do throughout the match. He barely had to make a save and was beaten at extremely close range after Ndiaye was left wide open. His distribution could've been better, but other than that a pretty routine evening for the Irishman.

Jay Dasilva - 7/10

Not a bad evening for the ex-Chelsea man. Dragged a shot wide early on which could've been caught better.

George Tanner - 5/10

Did fairly well on the right hand side of the back three. Smashed a peach of a half volley onto the post that got the home crowd on their feet. Didn't let much past him but ended his night horribly by seeing red after a dodgy tackle on James McAtee.

Zak Vyner - 8/10

A really solid performance from Vyner despite the result. Looked at home in the centre of the three and was a calm head. Commanded the defence well in the absence of the multiple regulars in the City defence. Pearson called him the most reliable of his current centre backs after the game. Did give the ball away from a clearance which eventually led to the opposition's goal, but couldn't critique him otherwise.

Cam Pring - 7/10

Was  presence down the left hand side of defence, keeping United's right quiet and having a few ventures up the pitch himself. Made a really good last ditch tackle on McAtee in the box to prevent a real opportunity.

Mark Sykes - 6/10

Nothing too special from the Irishman who made himself fairly useful down the right for City. Put some good balls into the box that probably should've been met by one of the attackers before being substituted in the 60th minute.

Matty James - 6/10

Put himself about and looked decent next to the impressive Alex Scott. Showed off a decent range of passing. Was booked for a tackle after a heavy touch.

Alex Scott - 8/10

Was the highlight of the City team, bringing the X factor that his teammates lacked. Brought his side up the pitch numerous times and made two mazy runs that would've ended up viral if he'd managed to finish them off. The Robins have a proper talent on their hands.

Andreas Weimann - 6.5/10

Back in the side today and added some experience and leadership to the frontline. Played some lovely balls through to his strike partners and made some good runs that his teammates failed to spot. His only real chance came late on when his side were after an equaliser, but could only find the keeper's grasp.

Tommy Conway - 6/10

Probably the quietest of the front three, but did rattle the crossbar with a first time effort from the edge of the box.

Nakhi Wells - 7/10

Worked his socks off at the upper end of the pitch. Did his bit defensively as well, cutting out a counter attack that could've put The Blades ahead a lot earlier in the game. Didn't have much in the way of chances.

Substitutes:

Antoine Semenyo (60') - 6/10

Had probably the best chance of the game, but agonisingly put it wide.

Joe Williams (80') - 4/10

Booked for involvement in the brawl that broke out after the red card. Didn't make a difference when he came on.

Chris Martin (80') - 6/10

Tried his best after coming off the bench, but to no avail in the end.

  • Sheffield United

Wes Foderingham - 6/10

Covered his goal well. Didn't have many saves to make but when he did they were comfortable enough.

George Baldock - 5/10

Had a tough time of it against the likes of Dasilva and was beaten a few time out wide. Sured himself up in the second half and helped his side see out the win.

Chris Basham - 6/10

Not the greatest performance in the world, but held on tightly to the clean sheet.

John Egan - 6/10

Similarly wasn't at his best, but did allow the hosts many clear-cut chances. Clean sheet secured.

Jack Robinson - 6/10

Made a few crunching tackles and stamped his mark on the game. Not much else to write home about for the former Liverpool man.

Ben Osborn - 5/10

Was lively down the left and tried his best, but really struggled to get the better of whoever he was trying to get past down the left flank. Had the heart but not quite the ability on the night.

Oliver Norwood - 4/10

Couldn't pull the strings of the game from his midfield, mainly down to the lack off possession that his team had. Pressure got to him late on when he had a chance to double the lead, dragging an effort wide when he had multiple chances to set up a teammate in a superior position.

John Fleck - 4/10

Pretty anonymous throughout the evening. Didn't demonstrate the ability that he's shown plenty of times before.

Iliman Ndiaye - 8/10

After not a great first half, losing possession and taking too long on the ball a few times, Ndiaye won his side the game with his header early in the second half. Came to life a little more after that, pulling off a nutmeg on the edge of the box and firing the subsequent chance at O'Leary not long after scoring.

Reda Khadra - 3/10

Created the first chance of the game with a cross into Billy Sharp, but other than that was ineffective. Was hooked after 34 minutes, with manager Paul Heckingbottom claiming after the game that it was tactical. He continues to struggle after snubbing City and joining United in the summer.

Billy Sharp - 5/10

Had a tame header comfortably gathered by The Robins' keeper early on. Put pressure on Vyner who unknowingly flicked the ball to Ndiaye for the goal.

Substitutes:

James McAtee (34') - 6.5/10

Definitely an upgrade on Khadra whom he replaced. Showed some good feet to get out of tight spots and provided the cross which caused the winning goal. The loanee from Manchester City was victim of the Tanner horror challenge which saw the City man walk.

Oli McBurnie (65') - 4/10

Enda Stevens (65') - 5/10

Ciaran Clark (78') - 5/10
