After going 1-0 down to a Premier League team, many must have thought Stevenage would be put out of sight against Aston Villa in the FA Cup.

Morgan Sanson put the Villains in front in the first half after a one-two with Danny Ings, which put Unai Emery's side in control.

However, the game changed dramatically with just two minutes left of normal time. After Leander Dendoncker was given his marching orders for denying Dean Campbell a goalscoring opportunity, Stevenage had a penalty to level the game, which Jamie Reid dispatched, causing pandemonium in the away end for the travelling Boro fans.

Stevenage gained momentum from their, and after Aston Villa switched off from a corner, Campbell, who came on as a second-half substitute, wrote his name into Stevenage FC history books, firing home the winner to send Steve Evans' side into the Fourth Round of the FA Cup.

  • Steve Evans - "We'll be humble"

The Stevenage boss spoke to the BBC after the game, and spoke about how the goals came about for the visitors:

"We had to somehow stay in a cup tie 70/80 minutes. It's a right call by the VAR to give the goal offside. We think maybe we should've had penalty first half, not given. I said to the boys, keep your shape, keep you discipline. They'll get tired, we work with that intensity every week."

"We got the penalty and the sending off and I think that raised everyone a bit, Dean Campbell does well for that. Then he's the one that we send out for short set plays, but they won't have seen it in recent weeks, straight off the training ground, and well done Dean."

"It is very special, the chairman just said to me the greatest day in his club's life, and he's had the club for 26/27 years. A fantastic day for the town. We'll enjoy the moment. We'll now be humble and get on with our jobs for Saturday."

"It is a great goal to win it. You look at the players on that pitch, they're incredible, so we'll be humble."

"The boys will recover tomorrow and then we need to get ready for a tough game on Saturday. Our remit is not the FA Cup, our remit is the EFL (League) Two. We'll respect every opponent."

  • Dean Campbell - "It's an incredible feeling"

Aberdeen loanee Dean Campbell came on as a second half substitute at Villa Park, along with Jamie Reid.

That would be a crucial element to the game, as the two got a goal a piece to send Stevenage into Round Four.

Campbell also spoke to the BBC after the game, expressing "elation" after scoring the winner in front of 3,000 travelling Stevenage supporters:

"It was a good strike. I knew there were a lot of bodies in the way so I had to keep it down, I got a good connection and I saw it go in. It was just elation after that."

"First thing I thought was 'get the knee slide right', which was my first one in football and I think I managed to do all right with that."

It was Campbell's first goal since arriving from Scottish Premiership side Aberdeen last summer.

"It's an incredible feeling personally, but for the whole squad as well."

The Scotsman also praised his manager after the game:

"The gaffer has put together a brilliant dressing room. They are top guys and really good footballers so it's been a successful season so far. We've got to enjoy this one and keep pushing towards our ultimate goal, which is promotion."

Stevenage have been rewarded with another away tie, this time at Championship side Stoke City, on the weekend of January 28.

First, the League Two face Harrogate Town on January 14, 15:00 GMT, followed by a top of the table clash with Leyton Orient at the Lamex Stadium.
