Timo Werner is certainly no stranger to scoring goals.

Last season at RB Leipzig he netted 34 times in 45 games, as well as providing 13 assists.

His highly impressive performances attracted a lot of attention across Europe, with many clubs wanting to secure his services.

He soon made the decision to sign for the Blues in June and became the next piece in the exciting Chelsea puzzle.

VAVEL Chelsea explores the striker’s career so far and how he made the move to the Premier League.

  • Stuttgart's star

Werner’s football career began in his hometown of Stuttgart in south-west Germany.

He joined their academy at the age of 6 and spent 11 years at their youth setup.

The striker’s first senior appearance for the club came in 2013 in the Europa League qualifiers, and he soon became the youngest player to appear in the Bundesliga for Stuttgart.

  • Life at Leipzig

Werner signed a four-year contract with Leipzig in 2016 after Stuttgart’s relegation from the Bundesliga.

His first season there was a sign of things to come, as he scored 21 goals in 32 games and was the club’s highest goal scorer that season.

Despite them only just being promoted, Werner helped his team to a 2nd place finish in the Bundesliga and therefore qualified for the Champions League.

During the next season, he provided the goods once again when he produced 21 goals and 10 assists in 45 games.

The 2018/19 campaign saw him rack up similar numbers, before signing off his Leipzig career with 34 goals in all competitions in the season just gone.

  • Choosing Chelsea

Werner finished the season as the second highest scorer in the Bundesliga behind Robert Lewandowski.

The Blues soon activated his release clause and signed Werner on a five-year contract.

He officially joined the club on the 1st July this year to start preparing for the upcoming Premier League season.

Despite being at the club for a short time, the German has already made a great start in blue as he netted against Brighton in a preseason friendly.

At just 24, Werner still has a lot of future ahead of him.

If he is able to maintain the goal scoring efficiency he had in the Bundesliga, there is no doubt he could become one of the Premier League’s top strikers.

It is now time for him to lead the line at Chelsea and help guide them to more silverware.
