Steven Zuber's own goal cancelled out Kerem Demirbay's superb opener, as Bayern Munich failed to make their chances count in a 1-1 draw with TSG 1899 Hoffenheim.

Following a hard fought 2-1 win over PSV Eindhoven in mid-week, Carlo Ancelotti made three changes to the starting eleven as Thomas Müller, Joshua Kimmich, David Alaba and Philipp Lahm dropped out to allow Douglas Costa, Thiago, Rafinha and Juan Bernat to take up a starting berth.
Things were kept much more simple by Julian Nagelsmann, who opted for just one alteration after a 1-0 triumph against Hertha BSC. Nadiem Amiri was rewarded with a start and Lukas Rupp was to be content with a place on the bench as a result.
Both sides trade first-half blows
Bayern were the better side in the early stages and despite some promise for Hoffenheim, it looked like the home side would take the lead. However, an Arjen Robben shot that went well over and Oliver Baumann's smart stop to deny Rafinha at the near post was all their early movements could muster.
While Nagelsmann's side had shown signs, it was still a shock when they went ahead through Demirbay's stunning strike. He had shown his ability to connect with late balls into the box and this was no different, as he strode onto Amiri's cutback and sent a lazer-guided effort straight into the top corner. Manuel Neuer had no answer.
That didn't stop the home side and they came back with efforts from Thiago and Douglas Costa, although Baumann came to Hoffenheim's rescue on both ocassions. There would be nothing he could do when Costa's cross was turned goalward by Zuber, as the ball went through his legs for a deserved Bayern equaliser.
Bayern better after the break but fail to take chances
The second half saw Bayern dominate but Hoffenheim had their moments and had it not been for Bernat's block, Demirbay would have earned a second. That aside, Zuber was forced into a superb last ditch tackle and Ancelotti's men continued to pile the pressure onto a very deep and defensive visiting outfit.
The home side launched an onslaught in the latter stages that saw them strike both posts. The first culminated in Mats Hummels hitting the upright after a great move involving Xabi Alonso and Müller, only to see his 18-yard effort cannon away to safety. Müller had a better chance in added time, smacking the base of the post from six yards out.
Bayen remained top of the Bundesliga despite the draw, though RB Leipzig could go joint-top with a win on Sunday. As for Hoffenheim, their incredible start continues and they will be at least fourth heading into the international break. Perhaps most impressively, both sides are still unbeaten through 10 games.
